Currently waiting to see rheumatologis, problem with fibromyalgia is there isn't a test for it, it's diagnosed by exclusion.
My symptom are muscle and joint issue, headaches, fatigu, sleep issues.
However as I have suffered two strokes have scoliosis and osteoarthritis many of these symptoms can be put down to one or more of these issues
it is not a quick diagnosis

I have fibromyalgia, chronic abdominal pain, and osteoarthritis in my hands, wrists, knees and ankles. All 3 of these cause pain, but the fibromyalgia pain is widespread all over my body, and varies in type from severe aching, to stabbing, to burning and everything in between. I am on opiate patches with tablets for breakthrough pain, plus paracetamol, topiramate, gabapentin, and12 other drugs for various other conditions. I am in agony 24/7, had to give up work, can't do housework or anything, can only walk a few steps with crutches before I am in so much pain that I need my wheelchair. This is a horrible disease/illness, that has destroyed my life

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Hi
I would like to hear how members are affected by Fibromyalgia, what symptoms they suffer caused by it and how they were originally diagnosed please.
Since practically living at doctors, specialists and hospital in 1983 - 1989, I developed a real aversion to them, avoiding them much as one would a particularly nasty looking spider! Only going when I absolutely had no other choice and controlling my own pain management as much as possible.
That was until I had a 'bit of a heart do' in March this year. Since then, I don't seem to be out of surgeries, clinics and various hospital departments with first one thing and then another. Because I have been juggling some fairly major bits and pieces health wise, like the angina diagnosis and the dreadful rash I developed, I have not taken too much notice of other things, but now realise I have had symptoms that have been gradually appearing and worsening since March, the time of the first angina attack. I think I have been writing some of it off to that, but now realise, there is probably something else going on too.
I know we are not encouraged to self-diagnose, but I don't want to start yet another round of tests and appointments for nothing. I identified that my symptoms may add up to Fibromyalgia, but would be interested to hear from other members about how they are affected and how they achieved a diagnosis of this before I add yet another round of appointments to the growing list.
Thank you in anticipation people.
