Hi I have Rheumatoid arthritis which affects my fingers and wrists so can understand your issues with cooking. This is what I have in place: a mini chopper for cutting onions, a piece of foam tubing on the handles of cutting knives and cutlery as holding normal sized knives and forks is difficult. I have an electric can and jar opener, I use a chip pan basket in the bottom of pans to make draining easier. I have lightweight pans with fatter handles using the foam tubing. I also have a one cup kettle that dispenses the hot water into a cup so I don't have to pick it up. I think that's all. If I think of anything I have missed will add it on. I hope this helps

Hi
I also have OA in my hands and especially around the base of my thumbs and into my wrists. It is difficult some days to hold a mug by it's handle I need the other hand to hold it upright. I just seem to have the strength in it at times. I have OA in my right hand more than my left, but then I need my left shoulder replacing, so it balances out that both hands can be pretty awful at times.
Do either of you get like electric shocks through them that tends to make your hand open? When I get the sharp burning pains, I sometimes get this and it makes me drop whatever I have in my hand at the time. I have dropped cups of tea before now. Just wondered if it was usual for this to happen?
The idea of a chip pan basket in a saucepan is brilliant. I already have a battery operated can opener and jar opener. I have a small kettle which helps.
Does anyone know of a good electric cheese grater as I have big problems with that and I hate the ready grated stuff you can buy.

Crissy100, my husband bought me a small electric grater with different attachments for cutting different food types. I cant remember what make it is and cant check as I am on holiday at the moment. It is very similar to this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Crofton-Professional-Electric-Multi-Slicer-Grater-/261986359643?hash=item3cff9a995b

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

I have had OA for 10 years and it is starting to affect my hands badly. I love cooking, but it is getting difficult for me to prepare meals, especially meals with a lot of chopping and slicing etc. Does anyone else have this problem ? And how do you deal with it ? Any tips for cooking without too much preparing?
