Hello. i do take Collagen supplements. have been taking it for number of years now. i can not swear to its effectiveness, as i also take a lot of other supplements along side it. they are, Turmeric, Glucosamine sulphate, MSM Cod liver oil, Omega 3 to name the few. But I would imagine that they do help. Along with the supplements and swimming and knee exercises, I have been able to keep my Arthritis under control. I do think that I might have to have a Total knee replacement before too long, as my scan shows that my right knee is bone on bone. But some how I seem to be managing alright. Hope this is helpful.

Hi. Thanks. I also take similar supplements to you so understand that it’s hard to know what is helping and what isn’t. It seems strange though that there’s been no other responses to this post so can only assume that collagen is not something that is used much by the medical profession in the UK.

No, its not. Its mostly used for cosmetic purposes by women to keep their skin looking plumb and youthful. That is the reason I started using it for, many years ago. Now have continued using because as you age and lose weight your skin on the face shrivels up and wrinkles become more prominent. But at 74 I am not so worried about that, but am using it for the purpose of cartilage building in the joints in the hope that it helps. My knees are getting worse and today it hurt so bad to come down the stairs and get down on the toilet, getting up off the chair etc, that I have booked an appointment with my GP to have Steroid injection in my knee till I have finished holidaying for the rest of this year, and have a Replacement in Early next year.

I suffer from knee joints rubbing and I found yoga really helped with the pain. I have never tried collagen but found yoga to be a life saver!

I don't use collagen and am not worried about the wrinkles effect.
I understand it being used for medical reasons, but everyone is different and if it helps, then by all means use it!

The Arthritic changes in my knees are very sever. I had a Steroid injection in my right knee. The GP said that my patella is so fixed that she could not move it about to get the needle in. Eventually when she got the needle in, not all the injection could be pushed into the knee and she said I need it replacing asap. I can only do limited yoga, as my Spine is fixed from Thoracic 9, right down to the bottom of my spine. I have very limited mobility in spine so yoga is very difficult. I do do it, but only as far as my back will allow me to, as I have zero bend in my spine. I have 3 holidays booked till the end of this year. So when I come back from my final holiday in early January, I will get the ball rolling for a knee replacement. I was told I need it in Aug.2015, but with natural therapies and alternative treatment I managed to prolong it up to now. My other knee is also getting equally bad, and I can not afford to be crippled with both knees at the same time. So wish me luck please, and hope that I manage to enjoy my holidays.

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

i would just like to ask if anyone has experience of having collagen injections or use collagen supplements with regards to their arthritis pain. A Greek friend of mine has regular collagen injections in his ankles and sometimes knees for arthritis and the constant wear on his joints (he does a lot of walking in a day). I don’t know whether this is a normal medical practice in Greece but am interested in anyone’s knowledge of this.
Thanks
