As regards PIP I had mine turned down on first medical. I had been on DLA but the main reason for my negative result was apparently being able to reach into my handbag to produce a bus pass for ID! Two months later a separate medical for support group ESSA was granted! One cancelled out the other/crazy system!

The morning of an appointment for the PIP interview I had a fit and went back to sleep because I was tired after it took me ages to explain that to the PIP people. These assessors aren't medical people and haven't a clue.

I have petit mal or absence seizures. I applied for PIP back in 2013, when my Working Tax credits stopped as I forgot to inform DWP about my epilepsy.
I was awarded the lower rate after submitting medical letters/reports from my Neurologist and Neuropsychologist.
I got help to fill my form in from a charity in Salford called Brain And Spinal Injury Centre (BASIC).
I was advised that even if you can do day to day things, look at the fact that without friends and family, assume you had a seizure unexpectedly, you could injure yourself and others. And answer questions on that basis.
After I lost my job on incapability due to epilepsy in 2016, despite a reduced workload (subsequently increased) rending it impossible to meet employers increased targets, I applied for PIP when it was due for renewal.
This time I received the higher rate as I have struggled to find any work and find it hard at home and when in employment, to follow complex instructions quickly.
I'm trying not to worry as I'm on 3 meds, had surgery to reduce my seizures in 2012, yet still having seizures.

Patients with epilepsy can benefit from Personal Independence Payment which is supposed to help people cover additional costs caused by their chronic illness. To receive the PIP you must go through a special assessment.
Have you already applied for PIP and gond through the assessment successfully? How much time did it take you and did you find the process of application easy?
If you didn't get the PIP, what was the motive for the negative answer? Did you then apply for reconsideration?
Are there any other disability/ill-health benefits you've applied for?
What is your opinion of the disability benefit system in the UK? What do you think should be improved?
