Hi, I personally was expecting complications on kidneys as my blood pressure is not at all normal. I was screened for nephropathy a couple of times only.. I think that's why I'm ill now actually, the doctor I had before didn't insist on tests. So I think it depends on your medical team, on the stage of your diabetes, etc.
My present doctor explained lots of things to me after the diagnosis, and then I looked the disease up on the INternet, so I can say I'm fully aware of what awaits me.

Were you aware of the potential impact of diabetes on kidneys before receiving the diagnosis? Did your doctor ever talk to you about the link between diabetes and kidney disease?
How often were you screend before the diagnosis or how often do you get screened if you weren't diagnosed with nephropathy? Does your doctor explain the results to you after each exam?
What are the main sources of information for you? Is it sufficient and well delivered?
What do you think patients lack in terms of information?
Thank you very much for sharing your experience and your opinion on these questions!
