@pathayes24 Hello pay,
I'm sorry to hear about the health problems you and your family are going through. From a quick google search, it seems there could be a correlation so it would definitely be worth talking to your GP about it.
Do any other members know anything about this and the link to stroke? Do you have any experience concerning this or words of comfort to share? @Sickofpain @Carol123 @Donzone @Bex2407 @LadyXanax @catinahat @Bonyrose @peacockd @Robinspot @southenddes @huluzoom70 @Geraint @Taffydaffy @Suekirtley @kemish @Nomibee @Immyxcary @pisces08 @artmarshall @rellis124ablueyonder @huckfin @wintersice @Soulgirl1966

Hi I came across your comment while doing a Google search for info on Protein S deficiency and Corona virus. I know your comment was a while ago but hopefully I can give you some info. I was diagnosed with Protein S Deficiency when I was 21 after having my first child. I had a DVT and a Pulmonary Embolism. I'm now 50. My elder brother had suffered a massive stroke at the age of 26. He passed away at 33 with a brain haemorrhage. When my brother had his stroke there were not up to date enough tests to make a diagnosis for Protein S Def. (There were 13 years of difference between ages.) My Father died of a heart attack at 56, my Mother of a sudden stroke after a minor op at 57. Because of the family history, especially the experience of my brother, after my initial DVT and PE, I was referred to the haematology dept at a hospital in Edinburgh. I was then given warfarin treatment for 3 months. I had 4 or 5 recurrent DVT's so was eventually put on lifelong warfarin therapy. My other elder Brother was diagnosed with Protein S Def. 5 years ago and is receives daily medication for it. His, son and my nephew sadly passed away suddenly from a massive stroke at the age of 29 in 2018. He was otherwise very healthy. He had been tested but was not given medication because he had not had a DVT or PE. His death is currently under investigation as there were huge failures in diagnosing the was actually having a stroke by his local health NHS services. My own daughter and the rest of my family have all been tested. Everyone else is in the clear but if they have children they will all have to be tested because it is a hereditary condition. So, in answer to your question, yes it can and does cause strokes. I hope you and your family are all in good health and this has helped in some way.

@MaryB70 Hi Mary, thanks for reaching out. My daughter who had the PE has actually got a DVT in her upper arm right now, she is due to have an ultrasound tomorrow. This is while she is already on Apixaban blood thinner. It's a constant worry. I'm sorry to hear about your nephew. I xx hope you are well.

@Scotsnan Iwent to see a haematologist last year to talk about coming off Warfarin and onto something safer but he talked me out of it. One of the things he explained was that if you miss even one Apixaban then are not coagulated. So you're at risk if you miss a dose. If I miss a dose of warfarin I am still coagulated for 3 days. So my blood doesn't thicken immediately. I think they both have their pros and cons. Sorry to hear about your daughter. I understand how worrying it must be for you. Hopefully they can get her blood sorted out! Take care. X

One of my daughters had a stroke 3 years ago at the age of 28. My other daughter has had 2 DVTs in her arm, and one in her leg which broke off and travelled to her lung, causing a pulmonary embolism. She has been diagnosed with Hereditary Protein S deficiency. I have been tested and also have this. My daughter who had the stroke hasn't been tested for this yet. Does anyone know whether Protein S deficiency can cause stroke?
