@Courtney_J 've been very lucky throughout my experience. My doctor was reassuring throughout the whole thing and referred me to a wonderful specialist who really reassured me and explained everything. And then I had a wonderful Macmillan nurse who gave me all sort of advice and support. I'm really thankful because I know it's not always like that. I think things are getting better, but I know that doctors weren't always the best trained in bedside manner. If ever I have an "unpleasant" experience I try to remind myself that nurses and doctors and other medical staff are humans too and that we all have our bad days.

I have until recently been very lucky with Doctors i have had, but since the Covid pandemic, things have got totally distorted. No direct consultation until a phonetic is conducted. Sometimes, very difficult to explain the complaint phonetically. I appreciate the fact about social distancing and only allowing a limited number of patients into the surgery at any one time. However, due to no queuing allowed an appointment can only be made via a phone call. All automated these days. Has anyone else had the "voice" saying "You are caller 25 in the queue. We value your call, please hold" I now have a severe BP problem.

I've also been fortunate with my cancer team. The specialist, nurses and other medical staff have been wonderful throughout. But I do agree @viking47, communication has been lacking since COVID started and not being able to see my specialist in person has been hard. Getting through on the phone is a nightmare some days.

I must admit admit a lot of disappointment with my team over treatment, care and long term health. Basically the Oncologists lied or very short on the truth to ensure patients go through their full treatment. Terrible aftereffects of radiotherapy left many long term health issues that have proved quite devastating. You are isolated from other patients so you are unable to collate wider experiences, so quite alone. Over the years you learn from petitions, and mainly online sources the true experiences that provide a terrifying picture, so hidden to you as an individual patient. The NHS lying and dishonesty over cancer treatment and its after effects is totally outrageous. Each section of the NHS has its own specific funds and guard them religiously which is a real issue for cancer patients as they cross over different departments and their funds. Yes the early stages there are some sensible crossovers and funds but cancer recovery is not short term. Macmillan was a bit of hit and miss as far as help was concerned, for me all they wanted was money contributions with no help offered. But with my father I did manage access some help as the NHS wrote him off with the Doctors and nurses simply trying not to treat his cancer. Thankfully I took no notice and made them operate to remove the cancer despite the doctors frightening claims. He survived for nearly 5 years and enjoyed those extra years. Stay safe!

I am sorry to hear about your experiences. Perhaps I was lucky, but I found every single person who dealt with me, from the NHS Staff, the Oncologist and team. I had my RadioTherapy procedure at Churchill (Oxford) and have nothing but praise for everyone there. On completion of my treatment, the "exit interview" (for want of a better phrase), impressed me by the care and attention I received, There was an abundant availability of literature and the assurance that assistance would be there if needed. I have availed of the service. Cancer certainly is one of those diseases that can engender loneliness and trepidation. I hope all is now well with you. Stay strong and Positive.

Hi,
sorry for your poor experience with your husbands doctors. I too am suffering from cancer and have had excellent care and awful care from doctors and nurses and you are afraid to open your mouth in case it will have repercussions with your care. I feel the NHS is on its way out and I have worked as a nurse all my life until April 2019 when I got my diagnosis. Just you keep pushing for the right care for your husband there are some good health professionals out there but you do have to look and you do have to fight

sometimes I am happy with my doctors, but at other times, I think that they simply aren't treating me with care and respect. I do not want to be talked down to or have anything hidden from me? I want to know everything that I am living with , because then I will not sit around thinking about it and wondering how bad it could get? If I know what is wrong, then I can learn to accept it and cope, no matter how horrible it maybe
if I have injection, or surgery. I have the philosophy , it cant be as bad as having heart bypass surgery ? I realise that not everyone feels as I do , and that some people simply do not want to know what they maybe living with, for their own personal reasons. this is their choice and i completely respect it and will support them 100%
