Weather definitely affects me too, as you said particularly wet and cold weather.
Although it is extremely difficult to do so while you’re in pain, I find that very gentle stretches can help to take that edge off when your medication can’t.
Once that helps and you feel slightly better, try and do a calm swim aswell as that is what has always helped me and has always been recommended to me.
I really hope I don’t come off as patronising, I’m just trying to help and I hope it does help even slightly.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I generally have problems with fatty foods, but since AS is an inflammatory disease, I've been wondering if I should shut out inflammtory foods like gluten or refined sugar. Has anyone gone on a sugar fast?

Hi neighbour
I haven't heard of problems with sugar or gluten. My dietitian told my that 'EVERYTHING IN MODERATION'. If you know that certain foods upset you like fatty foods then cut down on the problem foods. I was diagnosed diabetic some years ago (too many to count) and the ONLY real change that I made was to cut out sugar in my tea and have sweetener instead. I still have a little sugar on my cereals in the morning and I like a bit of homemade fruit cake now and then. I went to a Christmas party at our local 'Leg Club' and on entering the door I was greeted with...'I don't suppose there is much there you can have?' The tables were full of sandwiches, little cakes, crisps, biscuits and the like. I politely told her that I was diabetic. NOT allergic to sugar or food....lol....lol. People have a misconception about foods and how they affect you. ONLY YOU know what foods you can or should have, play around a little and see what works BEST for YOU. Only you will know.
Best of luck friend

@neighbour I have a friend in the States who has a different inflammatory disease, and she did the Whole30 diet which is apparently very popular over there and she saw an amazing change. I think it tries to eliminate foods that cause inflammation plus sugar, and basically anything that's "unnatural". I think it's very challenging to do but apparently it helped her identify foods that her body has hard time with. I'd be interested to see what it'd do for AS, but I'd need to look into it first.

@april007 Oh that sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it to! Has anyone tried it? Is it hard?

@april007 @neighbour I haven't heard of that. sounds intriguing. I'd add that I think it's important to get calcium in our diets since AS impacts our bones. I try to eat lots of leafy greens, broccoli, and drink a lot of milk! A bit like Popeye!

Hi all,
Does anyone follow a specific diet for AS? I am not great in the kitchen and easily get discouraged.. especially because there are so many different tips for a healthy diet with AS. Some say that low starch food is the best for AS.. Others just say you should eat a balanced diet.
It would be great to hear what others are doing about diet.
Hope you're all good,
thanks
