Is it usual for people with acromegaly to gain a lot of weight. I've read a couple of posts about body image. I hate my body because I'm so big and I'm fat!! My shoe size went from a normal size 7 (uk) to a 9uk. (Eu43)
My foot has grown in a Z form causing it to hurt a lot. I have had shoes made for me and oh boy, they are horrible.
I had my op in 2006 it was successful.
My knees are really bad.. I have braces.
I've had both total hip replacements (2013)
I have to wear glasses to read and I get very tired. I'm also pretty depressed. I'm on loads of meds, some of which I'm sure are doing me no good.

@Courtney_J I still struggle with this, I can't look at old pictures of myself because it upsets me too much. With time the treatment has helped a bit, but I still don't feel like who I used to be.

I have had a tumor for about 7 years before anyone found it. My hands and wrists are huge and none of my jewellery fits. I can cope with that, its the face that hurts me. I pass a mirror and I dont recognise the reflection anymore. I have cause facial hair that my family tease me about. Ive gone from a size 16 to a size 20 and I am constantly on one diet or another.
Im depressed, I hate the fat ugly blob that looks back at me in the mirror.
I Had surgery December 2019, im having treatment now and I just want to look like me again. The endocrine team say I will in time probably years.

@clairethecatlady I understand completely, I avoid every mirror or reflective surface in the house. It's too hard to look at. It sounds like you're on the right path after your surgery, I'm hoping that I can get there too soon as well. What keeps me going is knowing that I'm the same person on the inside, and looking at before-after photos of people on different websites helps too. I don't think anyone can really understand what it's like without going through it like we are. Stay strong! xx

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Acromegaly has made my hands larger than normal.as if I actually had men's hands. I'm also rather tall and I've gained a lot of weight lately...all this makes me hate my body and be ashamed of it. But I have to live with it..
I wonder how others are coping with these body distortions and with the depression that comes with it?
