To be honest I knew my life expectancy prior to meeting my consultant as I’m a district nurse and did a lot of palliative care and did research before I met my oncologist . I was determined to beat it and not think about it . Depending on the person it can be helpful to know but many people live to that date and and so do the family and that is not helpful

My husband wanted to know his life expantry and was given 10 years which every body said that's good I didn't feel the same as he was only 58 when told this my husband is still here thank god but when he has a birthday I think another year of his life and then I think as we get older it's another year of all our lives so for the dismissal story but I feel cancer has been stamped in my brain

Hi everyone,
How are you today?
Often times when diagnosed with chronic and terminal illnesses we are constantly reminded of mortality but this can leave patients with even more stress and anxiety. They feel the pressure to "live life to the fullest" all the time or to "have the best day every day." Whether have you have received this new in particular or not, you may still have thought about it through your diagnosis.
What do you think? Do you think it is helpful to know your life expectancy? Does it change your outlook? Has having cancer changed how you approach life?
I'll tag a few members to get the conversation started.
