It was best part of 20 years before I was diagnosed with AS despite constant pain ,consequently much damage had occurred before I knew what was happening. At that time I lived in an area where the NHS provided excellent support for sufferers and regular physiotherapy and monitoring. At this stage I was well advised and supported when I learned of the need for regular targeted exercise to maintain mobility and posture. To this end I joined a local gym and this has helped me tremendously not only with mobility but posture. In retirement I moved to a more rural environment where my local GP knew nothing of AS and when I eventually managed to get a referral , the recommendation was for me to be monitored by my GP. So it’s very much down to me. Fortunately I have been allowed to keep the same medication which has been brilliant for me. Also I have kept up with the gym , so overall I manage the situation on my own. I am now turned 80 and have lived with AS on and off for the last 45 years so I recon I’ll cope a bit longer.

Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Ankylosing spondylitis is known to impact the spine and joints, which can sometimes lead to changes in posture. Over time, stiffness or pain in the back and neck might cause slouching, difficulty standing upright, or even changes in mobility. This can be frustrating and even affect confidence or daily activities.
Have you noticed AS changing your posture? If so, how have you managed it? Have exercises, physical therapy, or specific treatments helped you maintain better alignment or reduce discomfort?
