@Courtney_J I recently had a consult with my GP over video call and it went surprisingly well. It took me a bit to get everything set up and to figure out what I was doing, but I was able to see him and speak to him as usual without having to go into his surgery and wait with other people. I think I still prefer to see him in person, but it's good to know that maybe in the future I can rely on that if I'm too ill to leave the house.

My husband recently had a teleconsultation with a specialist nurse regarding the diagnosis of prostate cancer. The conversation went well where we were able to put her conversation onto the speaker on our mobile phone and both take part in the conversation. We were both assured of the personal issues this could have but were also given assurance that if support and advice were ever needed, the specialist nurse was just 'one call away'.
From my part, regarding epilepsy and discussions with my Neurologist, I prefer to see my Neurologist 'face to face' and don't believe in video or telephonic consultation, as this is a sensitive subject and depending on the extent of one's seizures and the type of epilepsy one has, can make the matter worse, i.e. video can affect a person with photosensitive epilepsy.
I do not object to telephone consultations with my Doctor, i.e. regarding prescriptions and general health conditions, but still prefer 'face to face contact' for more personal health conditions.

I have had several consults with my hospital doctor. He is working from home. My appointment with the brain surgeon has been cancelled due to virus so I have to wait, but at least I am still alive. I can not go out much as I fall over crossing the road, bit scary !

For me it's been a lot easier to have a telephone call from my rheumatologist and my GP.
There isn't all that time involved with getting washed dressed make sure you look ok, getting in the car, driving there, parking the car (car park charges) getting to the appointment on time. Have changed sometimes for me this can be so stressful and exhausting.
If I don't need to see a doctor then I I'm very happy to have a video or telephone call.
It's made me realise that my monthly face to face check ups with my GP aren't really necessary, I can rest assured that I will get a phone call if there's anything wrong with the blood tests I have on a monthly basis. My GP was doing this anyway before lockdown.

Yes, I can see the advantages for both parties. The question for me is whether GPs will become too dependent on remote consultations. At the end of the day, the personal touch is still the best and I know from my own experience that sometimes a face-to-face consultation is necessary. It's like everything else in life: if the system is used sensibly it can work and work well. The moment the accountants think they can use it to save more money it becomes dangerous.

I like the telephone consultations and haven't had any problems with this so far. Its safer and easier. Obviously some problems need the Dr to see you but routine stuff is straightforward.

I had a telephone consultation some months ago with a psychiatrist whom I have never met before and it was a meaningless encounter with a specialist in mental health. He merely mentioned that he was reducing my medication, which I pay for myself. He did not ask how I was coping with life etc.; when I tried to engage him more he did not show any interest as he is employed in the public health service and he probably does not know my case history. I also had a telephone consultation with a private lung specialist some months ago and I found that I this was not great either, as this does not compare with the face to face meeting. I hope to have a personal meeting with him soon, as he has been busy with our Covid Virus epidemic.

Yes, I have had telephone appointments with my GP. In fact have had 3. I think they are fine but for more in-depth examination not so good. Mine has been to try and find a medication that will work with my Parkinson's. So far not much joy bet keep hoping as symptoms aren't good at the moment

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
In recent months following the COVID-19 crisis, we've seen the NHS and health care industry turn more and more to telemedecine. Now, GPs and other health professionals are encouraged to conduct non-urgent consultations remotely by telephone, video and online consultations where possible.
Some of the NHS-approved tools include:
And what about you? Has anyone used teleconsultation recently? If so, in what context? What did you think of it? Is it something you'd continue to use in the future? Why or why not?
