@paulg54 Hi Paul, good news to hear your wife's test was negative once again! I am sure this was really a blessing to know.
Wishing you both a happy Wednesday and please thank her once again for helping the community and many others during this pandemic.

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
If you haven't already heard, WHO has welcomed the initial results from a clinical trial run in the UK showing that dexamethasone (a corticosteroid) can be life-saving for patients infected by COVID-19! The study showed that for patients on ventilators, mortality was reduced by about one third, and for patients on oxygen alone, mortality was reduce by one fifth!
What do you think about this news? Have you been prescribed dexamethasone as part of your treatment? Do you think it could be an answer to the pandemic?
Feel free to share your thoughts here!
Take care,
Courtney

Hello It does sound like a break through for treatment of the infected, but might lull people into false security . Its far better to try not to catch the virus or spread it. Not sure whether everyone could have it if they already take steroids in chronic illness cases. But it leaves room for thought that maybe people who are already taking steroids might avoid getting seriously ill if some steroids releive the symptoms. Or am I thinking too deeply .?? One step at a time and good news is better than none.

Hi Katie,
The government were quite clear to point out the use of a specific steroids can give a better life chance in the most severe Covid-19 patients on oxygen. I think it was 1 patient in 8 on a ventilator that drug helps and costs the NHS only a fiver per patient. So not a ground breaking treatment but is an new option that was not there before. Of course such treatment cannot used with people with certain breathing conditions like Asthma etc. due to its anti-inflammatory qualities like Ibuprofen so not ideal for all patients. Plus long term use of steroids is not a good option for most people. So no silver bullet but is first time a drug that may aid recovery in only severe patients. Disappointing that other drugs like Metformin and Quinine proved in the end ineffective, so the best policy is isolation and avoiding Covid-19 in the first place, stay safe.

@robjmckinney Thats the idea each of us has to weigh up the fors & againsts , thank you for the info about it not being suitable for all. But still a nice step forward to avoid deaths in larger numbers and cheap too. Those at risk will still need to tale care. Rather ironical I have arthritis too but can't have too many steroids. Including the ones that they put in your joints.

Well after all the months we have been waiting to find out if my wife has Nash. Unfortunately the answer is yes . But not looking to good . Apparently there are five stages. 0 to 4 four being the worst level. My wife results came back as 4 heavy scarring . But liver is working good .thank god . Advised to loose weight and further testing in six months .. so fingers crossed we can hopefully slow down the determination and loose some weight ..

@Shaun33 ... I'm so sorry to hear the news above but wish both you and your wife well with her program of determination and loss of weight. We can only hope that further testing in six months will bring better news but sending lots of well wishes and thoughts your way!
Bless you bothxxx

Hello everyone,
If you haven’t already seen in the news, many countries in Europe and elsewhere in the world are starting to discuss or put measures in place to end the COVID-19 lockdown.
In his address last night, the Prime Minister Johnson announced an easing of restrictions regarding the lockdown rather than simply ending it.
The Government has established five tests that will have to be met before considering an end to the lockdown:
In addition, a new COVID Alert System, determined by the R number (the rate of COVID infection) and the number of Coronavirus cases, has been put in place to indicate how strict social distancing measures must be. It includes five alert levels, Level 1 meaning COVID-19 is no longer present in the UK and Level 5 meaning a critical material risk of overwhelming the NHS.
Starting Wednesday, people in England who "can't work from home" will be encouraged to return to work, but should avoid public transport if possible. From this date people in England will also be able to spend more time outdoors for leisure, including unlimited outdoor exercise, sport, or sun in parks. The PM also indicated that starting June 1, England may be in a place to reopen primary schools, shops and nurseries in phases, and hopes that some public places (including restaurants, cinemas and places of worship) may reopen starting July 1.
The Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Ireland governments have indicated that they will not be following with the June 1 date for primary schools. Decisions are awaited regarding the opening of shops and other businesses.
What do you think about this easing of restrictions? Is it too early? What do you think the impact will be on those who are extremely vulnerable or at risk? Do have any questions? Have you had any further information from your GP or medical team?
Feel free to share your thoughts and questions below!
Take care,
Courtney
