Hopefully anyone with chronic extreme pain continuously over 24. hours daily may find this helpful. As previously stated had been on just Co-codamol 8/500 m.g for a great many years along with Tramadol. Mid last year my G.P. who is absolutely amazing. (Just as my first ever G.P. when I was 7. years and still clearly remember all their names today) My current G.P. never wanted me on anything morphine-based as would change my life too much despite a divorce, bedridden completely for 2.years. Under previous G.Ps The picture created is about to change as my present G.P. of just over 20. years decided to trial me on a derivative of Tramadol 8/ 50mg taken with Co-codamol both same dosage.
The trial as explained was to take Marol one 150 m.gs mornings and nights. Continuously without exceeding dose as it becomes Emergency to hospital as clearly explained by G.P and instructions. further absolutely no alcoholic drink of any description at any time whilst taking Marol I am l.time t.total so his decision was made easier as always determined to keep me off the morphine type. Briefly, I completed trial by immediately replacing 8/50 mg Tramadol and reducing likewise 8/500 mg Co-codamol to just one of Co-codamol mornings and nights along with Marol i/150 mg mornings and evenings. Whereas Co-codamol acts quicker Marol 150 mg. is slower at relieving pain but lasts much longer than amounts of other drugs along with combined less side effects.
I have as prescribed taken for over a year now! Although I had choice to switch back if any. difficult to control side effects or perhaps preferred instant relief over slower? It has made a major difference during day and if was not incontinence, waking about every 2. hours by instinctive feelings. I would sleep more balanced as pain, not major controlling factor it has been for over 30+years since accident causing disc prolapse with numerous side effects as the spine weakened from many issues like steroids before, Osteo. since. Like no exercise and although had physio for while from 2010 at Heart Rehabilitation, was stopped because of Aortic aneurysm.
I don't know how widely Marol is available as explained restrictions are a must to adhere too? Although also in lower strength.

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
For those who may not be aware, did you know that we have a medication module on the site? It allows you to see the the score given to a medicine by other Carenity members and to see their reviews of it. And of course, you too can comment and evaluate your treatment!
To search for a medicine, go here: Search for a medication
If you don't see your medication in the list, don't hesitate to let us know here, we try to keep our database updated as best we can!
So, what do you think of your medication? Has it helped improve your condition? How long did it take you to find the right prescription? Have you had to switch medicines over time? Have you had any side effects?
Feel free to share here!
Take care,
Courtney

I arrived in the country in 2017 and requested a review of my epilepsy. I have a very caring doctor who listens and am under a good Neurologist also. However, I am now on my 6th epilepsy medication due to all the bad side effects of the other 5 and the lack of effectiveness/control of seizures. During 48 years of having epilepsy, I've tried so many and just hope the new one I'm on now works! Allergic reactions to medications do not help matters, as I'm very allergic prone but I just find the harsh side effects at times too much for me to handle.
I've now tried Tegretol, Vimpat, Lamictal, Topiramate, Zonisamide, and am finally on Oxcarbazepine. I have taken Phenytoin for over 35 years which is the only one I trust at this stage. It must also be very frustrating for doctors and neurologists trying to find a compatible medication for their patients!

Hi, Lesmal, I have finally been put onto Lamotrigine which is very effective after several other drugs including Tegretol and Phenytoin.

@BAZWHEAT Good luck on Lamotrigine. Hope it works. I was on Lamictal for 6 months which I was allergic to in the end. It also gave me headaches, irritability and muscle and joint pain.
Keep me posted as to your progress.

The drug that changed my life was Octreotide. i have short bowel syndrom and had a ridiculous amount of poo coming from my stoma ( i was measured in hospital at 3750 mls in 24 hours). Thanks to octreotide its now down to 1500-2000 mls a day. I was flushing out all the nutrients and salts from my body previously but manage to keep on top of it now

I have taken Cocodemol for a number of years and it controls my pain well with absolutely no adverse side effects.
