I used to be so active, did aqua aerobics, zumba, yoga and exercise classes. I now struggle with most exercise, but do Tai chi and walk as much as possible. I asked my physio if walking would help my back as I was sceptical, but she said yes, in fact any exercise is better than none.

An active swimmer - I took up physical activities in 1990 (in my early 30s) as asthma had prevented many strenuous activities when younger. Breakdown of a relationship led me to doing different activities every day of the week apart from one, - aerobics, step, badminton, rambling and swimming. I maintained this for many years but foot injury meant I took up swimming more than anything else. By 2010 I was swimming 130 x 25m lengths 3 times a week. A left lung lobectomy (lost half my left lung to lung cancer) in Dec 2010 meant I stopped swimming for almost 6 months but developed it back to the same distance by June 2011. In time I gradually increased this to swimming 5-6 times a week and around 200+ lengths each visit. One year I swam 989 miles (64 lengths = 1 mile) and another 980 miles and greatest distance in one swim was 360 lengths. In more recent years arm surgery meant another decline in fitness and recent chest infections (that have hospitalised me) reduced it still further. Slowly rebuilding it - but averaging 1-2 visits per week and around 100 lengths so have a way to go! I find it helps my breathing rhythm, overall fitness, helps me sleep and is a great time for meditating! Since latest hospital stay, have been increasingly breathless which means walking or anything weight bearing is too difficult but swimming remains my exercise of choice.

@JosephineO I wish I could do more exercise, but I’m in constant pain and I am weak on the left hand side. Which stops me doing much ..

Once a week visit to specialised gym session plus whenever I feel like doing some exercises at home. Not often though as it can be boring.

The best thing I've done recently to help me get about has been to get a hoist in my car which means that I can get my mobility scooter out of the car on my own this means that I can go more places independently without total exhaustion .
