Hello to Michael...welcome to our "family". I am a nurse but have had to cut back because of A.S. I still run our free clinic for the poor in a rural area of Bali Indonesia,. Sometimes the pain is unbearable but I soldier on as best I can. Recently got a mobility scooter, it's amazing the freedom it has provided for me and on good days I scooter off to see patients. Love and hugs...Gloria

Hi Michael
Welcome to the community. its good to know you. I am Christina, aged 75. My main problem is Osteoarthritis. I am a retired nurse. training from 1962 to 1966, we didn't have hoist and sliding sheets or any lifting aids as now a days. So manually lifting heavy patients has taken its toll on my spine. I had 2 nasty RTAs, in 1071 and 1974. and in both of them I fractured my upper and lower Pubic Remi. In 1992 I was diagnosed as having mild form of Arthritis which progressed to moderate in 1999 when I started to have back problems and had multiple Steroid injections in my Spine. It got worse over the years and started with a trapped Sciatic nerve which had to be freed by surgery. " years later I had another slipped disc and the year later yet another slipped disc. Eventually I developed Scoliosis and was bent and twisted. In total I had 5 spinal surgeries and have been walking with crutches since 2013. They are my permanent companions. Other than that, I have raised cholesterol, Hypertension and IBS. Thankfully I am very exercise orientated and regularly exercise, swim and go to the gym once a week. back is my major problem.
I hope you will settle well in the community. Please wish Josephine all the best from me. Thank you
Christina

@GloriaG Brighton has changed a lot. It depends on which side your bread is buttered! It is very active, very expensive. Any specific questions? Hugs

Hi, I'm Emily 44, I was told I had fibromyalgia when I was 20 due to chronic neck pain. I threw the leaflet away and said "no way". Since having a slipped disc in 2016 I am slowly beginning to accept it. The back problems have now caused leg and foot problems, just had another MRI so waiting to see if they can do anything for me. I keep working and battling like everyone else on here.

Hello members my name is Paul.
I am mentally disabled and dyslexic I have been married to a Filipino wife now for nearly 4 years. I got married in the Philippines, and enjoy good Filipino food, and a wife who cares. My wife's latest visa was refused on the basis that I thought she didn't need to take another English test. According to the Home Office I could cope if I left the UK and travelled back with my wife to the Philippines. Words written down doesn't make it the truth. I take 5 pills a day, have an ECG once a year, a blood and urine test twice a year, have my feet checked also once a year. How am I to pay for all of this as no NHS in the Philippines, and no benefits as I do in the UK. They also stated that I could cope if I stayed in the UK by reversing to the care I had before I was married. As I had end of life episodes due to me not coping, I was placed on the mental health team, which was withdrawn without my knowledge, so again this isn't achievable for me.
We are appealing with a solicitor now, My wife passed her English test with Distinction, and our solicitor is putting right to the Home Office of how they felt I could cope. I find it very stressful everyday with dealing with the council and universal credit, yet with the appeal, even now I have episodes of end of life, but being able to talk to my wife I can overcome them. I retire next January, and I have been informed that this can be paid into a Philippine bank if I want, and future pay rises are included as well, this is OK but being with the wife is more important for the quality of life that we all need in later life. I feel I am lucky in finding such a good companion at this time of my life, when you really need it.
I do hope what I have written will help others who have medical problems that it doesn't matter what officials say, that we all are entitled to a life that we want, and there are all sorts of people that will help us to aspire to our dreams no matter how ill that you actually are.
