Osteoarthritis affects different joints: knees, hip, lower back, toes, fingers and neck. Each of these types demands a different approach in treatment and has a special impact on the patient's everyday life.

So, in this discussion, I suggest you mention the joint affected by your osteoarthritis, in order to find people in the exact same situation as you and be able to share more effectively.

I. Am 73 have had osteoarthritis in nearly all of my joints since I was 43, had hips replaced 15years ago, had my shoulder operated on, was on cocodamol and tramadol for 23 odd years, but was changed to buTrans pain patches which I top up with cocodamol and amytriptiline at night. The problem is the pain patches actually burn the skin and they itch all the time which is wearing me down. Once u have Osteo in so many joints as mind you have to get by as best you can. Oh how I wish I could walk the dogs down road instead of using scooter. If it isn't too bad, Voltarol helps bug you need to use twice a day everyday.

Hi I’ve just joined today, I’ve got OA In left hip and had steroid injection a few years ago. No regrets it worked wonders. Now all symptoms returned as steroids worn off. I’ve got all symptoms in my wrist bone going into my hand not fingers. I’ve had this for 10 months. So dr says “it sounds like you’ve got OA there too,” but as times gone by things are getting worse so had second opinion with another dr, having X-ray next wk to confirm. Also been told to take ibuprofen everyday 3 times a day for a wk then go back and see her.

@Juliebeames Hello I also have osteo arthritis in both knees and hips and is awaiting a left knee replacement. I find using fastum gel is very good for pain relief and you can use the patches versatis -- 12 hrs on and 12 hrs off. Hope that helps. Fastum gel is only available on prescription and contains ketoprofen.

@rose19 thanks for good information 👍🏻 Really hope that your not in too much pain! I’m going back to the Drs tommorow afternoon.she told me to go back after trying ibuprofen tablets for a wk. So, I will see what the next step will be!

ibuprofen has not got a good write up for arthritis. Co dydramol is a good analgesic.

I'm having lumbar surgery next week - disectomy/laminectomy and I'm scared stiff. Still waiting for my rotator cuff repair too. Oh hum 😊 gentle hugs for everyone xxxx

I went back to the Drs yesterday I’ve now been told to stop taking ibuprofen and got naproxen to take for 4 wks but also have X-ray this sat and blood test this monday

My situation has changed I had a new hip fitted in November, this has had such a positive improvement on my mobility I am no longer reliant on 2 walking sticks now down to one, mean while I can walk around the house without sticks despite needing my other hip replacing happy days.
