I was diagnosed with having spinal stenosis last year by my physio although I've never had an xray. When I spoke to my GP via a phone appointment she said I don't need to see her unless I start getting incontinent. I'm struggling to walk far and have to use a stick. The only treatment I've had is painkillers and exercises and fear for the future as my husband has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers, I just hope I can stay mobile.

I think you should just make an appointment to see your GP and not just on a phone slot. You should talk to him/her about your diagnosis of Spinal Stenosis by physio without an X-Ray. You have a right to have your diagnosis confirmed by X-Ray or a scan and your GP should go through with you to explain exactly what your diagnosis is, and if you need to be referred to a Neurologist. You need support, especially as your husband has been newly diagnosed with Alzheimers. GPs can refer you to Social services who can then refer you to an Occupational if necessary for any gadgets like, Raised toilet seat, grab rail to get in and out of bath, stair rail etc. It is your right to see your GP if you wish to. He or she needs to know about your husband's new diagnosis. Don't go through it all alone. You will need a lot of support to cope with your husband. So please make an early appointment with your GP asap.
I wish you good luck. Would like to know how you got on.

Hi nineteen -gale thanks for your advice, I think you're right i do need to get back to my GP, I've been letting things slide and trying to cope alone. We have already been referred to social services and they will be calling in a couple of weeks to assess our home so hopefully that will make things a bit easier. We will also have a dementia support worker soon so there is support available. I will make an appointment asap and see if I can get any help for myself . I see from your earlier posts that you have had surgery on your spine and sincerely hope that you make a speedy recovery. Thank you again for giving me the push that I need!

Thank you, and yes@Evie48 you should insist on having and X-Ray to confirm your diagnosis. You would be within your right to do so. Just be bold enough to speak up and say that you need conformation by X-Ray and not by your symptoms.
Good luck

Good luck with the doctor's appointment and don't be fobbed off if you are not offered the X-Ray or a scan to confirm your diagnosis

Hello,
Bone spurs (extra bits of bone, which feel like hard lumps, that form around the affected joint) are unfortunately a symptom of osteoarthritis that many people are impacted by.
Do you get bone spurs? If so, where?
