Lung cancer: What were your initial symptoms?

Hello @Vicky46‍, thank you for opening this discussion and welcome again! Through the tests were you able to bring up your concerns about lung cancer with the nurse or doctor? Were they able to do any sort of x-ray or lung scan?

Let me tag some other members who can possibly share their thoughts with you.

Hi everyone, how are you doing? Can any of you share what initial symptoms you had before you were diagnosed with lung cancer? What made you go to a doctor for help?

I havnt had an xray..I didn't even mention to the nurse that my chest was hurting the second time I went..I was to scared they would send me for an xray.. Stupid I know..its this weight loss as well its really worrying.. I did pluck the courage up to eventually make an appointment to see my Dr but he is of with covid. Typical ..I'd like to know if any of you lively people. Had pain in their chest when taking a deep breath in and weight loss as a symptom of lung cancer. Thank you in advance for any replies x

I went to the doctors with a sore leg and told her i was getting breathless,  she sent me for a chest x ray,  next thing i had a ct scan, then a pet scan, went in for biopsys got diagnosed with lung cancer had my operation two weeks ago too remove the tumour and half my lung, am not feeling great at the moment,  can anyone tell me when i will start feeling better x

@Vicky46 In my case I had a terrible sore throat and cough that wouldn't let up. I had been losing weight over time but didn't put it together with the other symptoms until my GP pointed it out to me. In terms of pain, the sore throat for me was the worst, it felt like I had swallowed shards of glass and I couldn't get a good enough breath in without coughing. If you can get back in to see someone make sure to bring up chest pain, if it's not lung cancer it could be something else. No need to feel stupid or embarassed, doctors and nurses are here for that. Lung cancer is best when it's caught early, so don't be shy. 

Thank you for replying..I will phone the Dr Monday and see if I can get an ex ray done..I'm just so scared..this pain in my chest isn't so much of a pain it feels like sort of pressure pain I can't really exsplain it..but my chest is clear and no cough or anything like that..I've had it for about 5 months now and it hasn't gotten any worse its the same..would it of gotton worse now if it was something bad?and its literally only there when I take a deep breath in..I'm note scared because my mum only just died of lung cancer 11 months ago😞it was the worsed time in my life.. Hi everyone I was coughing up blood this was do to aspirin had xray then ct scan fount 6cm ma's in left lung waiting for a pet scan at Papworth but I think I no I have cancer I've lost weight 

Thats the start of my journey try to put it to back of my mind but scared any help would be nice 

My first symptom was a hoarse voice

My first symptoms were hoarse voice and breathless. Had chest xray ct scan and a bronchoscopy. Then had an ebus procedure and 2 consultant appointments all within  3 weeks. Have been told its cancer and am now waiting for oncologist to contact me. I dont know what stage it is but have been told I will probably have chemo/rad 

Had motorbike accident  broke leg 18 months ago . 78 year old male..  Small tumour on lung detected chest X Ray pre op. . .... 12 months later short of breath.. had CT scan and tumour grown. Had biopsy and brain scan. Now developed to lung cancer stage 4  . Met to adrenal gland and brain.  I had a successful Ivor Lewis stomach  cancer operation  23 years ago so feel like  I have been living on a bonus . Decided to go for palliative care this time. I also have CKD and don't think my body strong enough for treatment. My doctors and care team are a tremendous support. .have had  a booster 3rd covid vax. Stay safe everyone. All the best for 2022
