If it was easy to get hold of I'd smoke it daily to relieve the pain

Hmm, not sure I would. I know a girl who used it for her pain and said it was the only thing that gave her any relief, but I am afraid the possible side effects frighten me off, particularly the chance of psychosis.

I've smoked cannabis as a way to help me sleep and it worked well for me. I'd have 1 joint on a night and sleep well. Saying that I've also been on a cannabis drug prescribed by pain management at the hospital but didn't find it much help. I was also on Ketamine but that didn't work out as good as I'd hoped but the way I wanted to use it the doctor wouldn't allow it. I wanted to take 1 largish dose as needed for the pain rather then take 3 small doses every 4 hours. If anyone is thinking about asking there GP's for these medications they are only prescribed at the hospital after you've been tested as being a suitable patent and can only be collected from the hospital pharmacy.
So in a nut shell yes I'd smoke cannabis at night to help me sleep. Others who have thought about wanting to try it but don't smoke it can be added to cakes and take like that. Also in the USA doctors give patents a note allowing them to have cannabis on themselves if stopped by the police yet the doctors in this country won't recognise it's use.

PS Queen Victoria is known to have used cannabis for menstrual cramps.

I find it hard to undrstand why a drug that is legal and prescribed to alleviate symptoms in one country can be criminalised in another!

Rhianon in the States it's legal in one county but not the next. People can get a note from there GP to say they use cannabis and travel into another state to buy some.
What this country should do is legalize it and the government grow it and sell it. They can then make money, drive the sellers and growers out of business and only produce a strain that's not skunk weed because that's where the main problem lies as skunk weed is too strong.
My chemist told me that cannabis is grown not far from me and used in research. I was on medication that was made from cannabis but it had the THC's (the bad bit) removed.

Linda, I've a good idea how you feel and if that's what it takes then you have to do it. I went on a pain control coarse at the hospital and the use of cannabis was raised and the doctor said there was plenty of other medication about that could be used. We asked if he'd used it, he said no! so he was politely told to shut up until he had tried it and realised it's advantages.

Like some of you, I have also looked into the possibility of using cannabis to help with pain. Unfortunately having a heart rhythm problem was told it could be extremely dangerous. Don't know what else to try!

I have suffered from back problems & severe pain for 30 years & have had 13ops in total. I never used to smoke but a couple of my friends used to smoke cannabis for pain & kept on at me to try it about 10 yrs ago. I made an appt with my G.P. & while I was there mentioned I was thinking of trying it, he told me off the record that he thought it was a good idea. I have now been smoking it for 9 yrs & it is the best thing I've tried for relaxing muscles & believe me I've tried just about everything including relaxation classes & even faith healing!! I have now been told by my hospital that I must try to give up smoking before my next op which I said is fine because I only smoke 4 or 5 joints per day but ive also told them I will not be stopping having cannabis, I will just take it in another form. As for the legal side of it, ive given up worrying, I make sure it's on all my hospital notes & in my G.P records which is about the most I can do, but for as long as it works I'll be using it. It seems crazy that I'm on methadone tabs for pain which is legal yet I can't get or buy cannabis legally.

Smoking cannabis daily 'IS safe when treating chronic pain - but only if you're an experienced user', study finds
By Lizzie Parry For Dailymail.com
When the drug is used as part of a treatment plan to help ease chronic pain, researchers have deemed it is 'reasonably safe'.
Scientists said they found no evidence of harmful effects on people's cognitive function, or blood tests, and they noted 'significant improvement' in their levels of pain, mood and quality of life.
Dr Mark Ware, from the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre in Montréal, said: 'This is the first and largest study of the long-term safety of medical cannabis use by patients suffering from chronic pain, ever conducted.
