Hi i just came on here to talk about after affect of treatment my auntie finishes chemo in may and the last of weeks she got the after affects of the chemo she never got none durning my auntie got bad taste in her mouth her legs are acheing she feels sick and is sick too she feels tired most days i was just wonder if anyone had side affects weeks or months after treatment and what they find help

unfortunately cancer and its treatment is just an unwelcome gift that keeps on giving. Cancer drugs, as my oncologist charmingly puts it are a bit like injecting drain cleaner! They are highly toxic and side effects can crop up months even years after treatment.

Personally the thing that works best for me is to stay active and I don't mean marathon running or mountain climbing, unless that floats your boat. I try to work out at least 4 days a week, that might be a bit of yoga, pilates, weight training, circuits, dog walking whatever works.

Be kind to yourself, do what you can when you feel able, if you don't feel able, rest! I try not to dwell on how I used to be and accept who I am now. This is my new normal!

I've just started chemotherapy and I'm wondering if any one has now got a milk tolerance at all, it has effected me quite badly, and all drinks except Vimto are metal tasting!

Or is it just me ???

Hi Lainey

Chemo can affect your sense of taste, mine certainly did, some days food didn't taste of anything, fortunately it wore off fairly quickly. I didn't develop a milk intolerance though, have you tried lactose free as it might be milk sugar that's causing the problem. I go for soya, coconut or almond milk these days as I prefer the taste. I find cows milk always tastes a bit off now.

I didn't get a milk intolerance either, but everything tasted like cardboard for quite a while and my mouth felt like it was full of cotton wool - sort of dry and fluffy! When not eating, there was always a metallic taste as well. This time around (oral Capecitabine) taste seems to have stayed largely intact, but the dry/fluffy mouth is still there, sometimes with metal-mouth as well, but not as bad as it was on FEC-T.

Eat whatever you feel like! Food tasted very strange to me including milk. Also my taste changed as to whereabouts on the chemo cycle I was. Even after I finished for a few months I could not taste things properly and I began to think I would never taste things right again. Gradually it came back though! For the time being - as I have said - eat and drink what tastes reasonable to you- other tastes will resume after a bit !

I find even now milk tastes off - even in a cup of tea. I also find that the smells of certain foods being cooked can make me gag - I finished TCH in Feb of this year!!
