Medication indications

Ranitidine 150mg Film-coated Tablets

Adults

Duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer, including that associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.

Prevention of NSAID associated duodenal ulcers.

Treatment of duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection.

Post-operative ulcer.

Oesophageal reflux disease including long term management of healed oesophagitis.

Symptomatic relief in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Chronic episodic dyspepsia, characterised by pain (epigastric or retrosternal) which is related to meals or disturbs sleep but is not associated with the above conditions.

Prophylaxis of gastrointestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients.

Prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage with bleeding peptic ulcers.

Before general anaesthesia in patients at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's syndrome), particularly obstetric patients during labour.

Children (3 to 18 years)

- Short term treatment of peptic ulcer

- Treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Ranitidine 150mg tablets

Adults

Ranitidine tablets are indicated for the treatment of benign gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, including that associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.

Prevention of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) (including aspirin) associated duodenal ulcers, especially in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease.

Treatment of duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection.

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Ranitidine tablets are indicated for the long-term treatment of duodenal and benign gastric ulcers to prevent their recurrence. Long-term treatment is indicated in patients with a history of recurrent ulcers.

Children (3 to 18 years)

• Short term treatment of peptic ulcer

• Treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Ranitidine 150mg/10ml Oral Solution

Ranitidine is indicated for the treatment of duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer, including that associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, ranitidine is indicated for the prevention of NSAID (including aspirin) associated duodenal ulcers.

Ranitidine is also indicated for the treatment of post-operative ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome and treatment of oesophageal reflux disease including prevention of relapse.

Ranitidine is indicated for the following conditions where reduction of gastric secretion and acid output is desirable;

- the prophylaxis of gastro-intestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients

- the prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers

- before general anaesthesia in patients considered to be at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's Syndrome), particularly obstetric patients during labour.

Children (3 to 18 years)

- Short term treatment of peptic ulcer

- Treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Ranitidine 25mg/ml Solution for Injection

Ranitidine Injection is indicated in treatment benign gastric and duodenal ulceration including reflux oesophagitis, post operative ulcers and other conditions where reduction of gastric acid output is beneficial: prophylaxis of gastrointestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients, the prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers and in patients before general anaesthesia considered to be at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's Syndrome), particularly obstetric patients during labour. Ranitidine is also indicated in Zollinger Ellison Syndrome

Paediatric population (6 months to 18 years)

- Short term treatment of peptic ulcer

- Treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Ranitidine 30mg/ml Oral Solution

Adults

Ranitidine Oral Solution is indicated for the treatment of duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer, including that associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, Ranitidine Oral Solution is indicated for the prevention of NSAID associated duodenal ulcers. Ranitidine Oral Solution is also indicated for the treatment of post-operative ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome and oesophageal reflux disease including long term management of healed oesophagitis. Other patients with chronic episodic dyspepsia, characterised by pain (epigastric or retrosternal) which is related to meals or disturbs sleep but is not associated with the preceding conditions may benefit from ranitidine treatment. Ranitidine Oral Solution is indicated for the following conditions where reduction of gastric secretion and acid output is desirable; the prophylaxis of gastro-intestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients, the prophylaxis of recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers and before general anaesthesia in patients considered to be at risk of acid aspiration (Mendelson's Syndrome), particularly obstetric patients during labour. For appropriate cases Ranitidine injection is also available (see separate SPC).

Ranitidine 50mg/2ml Solution for Injection and Infusion

Adults

Ranitidine Solution for Injection is indicated for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, post - operative ulcer, and of Zollinger - Ellison Syndrome .In the management of conditions where reduction of gastric secretion and acid output is desirable, such as reflux oesphagitis.

As prophylaxis against:

• gastrointestinal haemorrhage from stress ulceration in seriously ill patients

• recurrent haemorrhage in patients with bleeding peptic ulcers

• acid aspiration (Mendelson's Syndrome) before anaesthesia in patients at risk, particularly obstetric patients during labour.

Children (6 months to 18 years)

• short term treatment of peptic ulcer

• treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, including reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

I was happy with the medication; regret could not find the correct brand due to allergies to certain brands. Have now been put on Lansoprazole and hope this won't cause allergies too!

I haven't been on the medication for long enough to tell how effective it is so far. I hope it will work in due course.
