Dark mornings, I just do not want to get to of bed. Wet miserable days, I loose motivation. Just want to hibernate. Taking D3 which does help and I make myself go to exercise class twice a week. One of the groups is Dancing for Wellbeing, which I find very energising. It is basically movement (some of them quite silly) to music. Can be done seated, so I can manage it even with my COPD. Cold air restricts my breathing so outdoor activities are not an option in winter.
Recently came across an article relating to exercise
"Dr Kathrin Rehfeld, lead author of the study, said: "Two different types of physical exercise (dancing and endurance training) both increase the area of the brain that declines with age. In comparison, it was only dancing that led to noticeable behavioural changes in terms of improved balance."

I definitely get a little down with the grey skies. But I love dressing up in warm clothes, hot tea and a nice fire at home (when I get around to it)

I just wanted to know if anyone has used a sunrise lamp or light therapy? The NHS doesn't cover them, but the lack of light is really getting me down. I wonder if it's worth the expense. Anyone tried it or have a model they like?

Hi Zoe
I have used one and it was great. My son has it now. The best kind , or rather the easiest to use are the sunrise ones, which come on an hour before you want to get up. I also found that taking Vit D3 helped me. I still take it every winter.
I also had to cut down on carbs and sugar as I realised I was eating a lot more of those in winter. Comfort eating I suppose. I hate the cold weather, it makes my breathing so much worse and restricts what I can do.

I should have added that if you are magnesium deficient it will interfere with processing Vit D. I found out that my PPI's had caused magnesium deficiency. Best talk to your GP before adding anything to your regime.

Now there's a coincidence! There is a brilliant article in the DailyMail health section today. Written by the man who first wrote about SAD years ago. Lots of useful information. On line at dailymail.co.uk

@Scotty 2 Thank you for this advice and the scoop on the Daily Mail. And very interesting stuff about magnesium deficiency. Was it your GP who let you know about that?
As Scotty 2 said, check with your MP before adding any supplements to your diet. Some can have unintended reactions with certain medications.

@Hileena Hiya, geez wish we could get such a thing here in rural Bali...I'm at the end of my tether thinking I could go back to work as a nurse at a free clinic for the poor in a remote area...silly me...."yes I'm strong now, feeling great" I said to myself, I can contribute again the way I used to...foolish thinking. I so badly want to be a part of things again...but I get knocked down every time I try to be "normal" and strong and not bothered by pain. Can someone try to get my silly head together for me...badly needed......but hugs anyway...G

@Michael_B Hi Michael it was not originally my GP, but a Naturopath acquaintance who suggested I get my magnesium checked, Quoting the research that indicated the problem with ppi's My GP was happy to arrange a test and I was very low. Problem is test only show what is in the blood and most magnesium is stored in the tissue.

When it gets icy or slippery outside, it's really hard for my sister. She has trouble with balance due to her MS and uses a cane and the risk of slipping on the ice is too high. She ends up stuck at home all day and that the both of us, for her being stuck inside and for me seeing her miserable. She tries to keep in touch with friends, and I've encouraged her to join support sites like this one, but she's not ready. It definitely helps me writing a note here from time to time. Anything to keep from dwelling on the weather.
