Dear friends with diabetes, type 1, type 2 or other, welcome!

I find my daily life with diabetics is often tedious...why don't we share our blood sugar levels? I have no friends with diabetes at all...

Me 2.05 and I had a savoury pancake and a salad for lunch....

I wear an insulin pump and on the days I change my pump insert, I frequently have high blood sugars during the evening and night. I am very careful in my routine for replacing my giving set and yet the reading can be very veriable. When it works, it is brilliant, but when it goes very high, I have a very scary time trying to get things under control before going to sleep. My husband gets very distressed about it. I will get up several times in the night to do a blood test to make sure I don't go into an hyper attack. I think a complicating factor might be that I am menopausal and the hormonal balance can have and impact possibly causinging many highs and lows. My life is never tedious. What is your experience, or is it just me?

@JoyceB @Natster @Miranda Mine can go up and down as well, depending on where I am in my cycle...it isn't easy. I have never thought that menopause could have such an impact, it will have to be something that I keep an eye out for.

I’m having similar menopausal type issues...my cycle is all over the place...as are my bloods for the most part. I self funded the Libre for three years and I found that to be a massive help...thankfully as of last week I have it on prescription...I hope that’ll make it a little easier to manage

Thank you ladiesl, its good to know I am not alone. My diabetic consultant told me I will need to buy a Libre but they have a long waiting list for customers so I am waiting my turn to buy one. Maybe I will get luck if my consultant prescribes it for me.

@Natster @JoyceB Yes, it is definitely a good idea to ask your consultant for a prescription, it can be very costly paying out of pocket for these things that are a necessity!

@JoyceB‍ @Hello78‍ they are now supposed to be available to all type 1’s meeting the criteria which is great but the criteria can be quite tight. It’s also worth noting that a lot of the bigger supermarkets with a pharmacy attached are now stocking them and you’re able to buy them over the counter for around £44 although the cost varies between stores. Now that they are more easily available on prescription a lot of the smaller chemists are now also selling them although I think it would be unreasonable to pay more than £50 each

My levels go up and down, sometimes in the evening, I do not have a snack, and test before my night time insulin, and it is usually normal levels, last night it was 7.3, got up this morning, and for the first time in ages, it was 7.5 before breakfast, so did my injection, and had 2 poached eggs, 2 small slices of toast, and a tomato, then 2 hours later, it was on 13.4, and I dont know why.....so walked to town, and tested when I got home, and it was 6.3
