I am certain mine is from genetics. My mother suffered from it but there wasn't really a name for it at the time so wel called it "mother's aches".

Mine is due to genetic factors... My family are all osteo-arthritic!
We all have joint problems, from the ankles, knees, hips and back!
As the weather changes, the pain worsens!

My osteoarthritis is directly related to the damage done by childhood polio. This caused paralysis of my right leg and some damage to my left leg. For over 70 years my left leg has done the work of two and now the knee joint has worn out. For 30 years I have walked with crutches which has resulted in osteoarthritis in my shoulders, elbows and hands. Not surprising as our arms are not intended to bear our weight constantly.

I have gradually got worse over the last 7 years I think it's also down to genetics as most of us on my mother's side suffer with it. Apart from different types of supplements I was wondering if anyone had found something that could possibly help.

Mine is generic. My mother and my grand mother suffered from it. Also, i had 2 road traffic accidents and in both of them I fractured my pelvis in 4 places . i was 30 and 34 years old then. Being a nurse in those days when we had no sliding sheets or hoist or any lifting equipment, we had to manually lift heavy patients. That and the RTAs took a toll on my back and 25 years later I started having sever back problems. had several steroid injections which did not help. Eventually developed slipped disc one after another and became a cripple with arthritis. had 5 spinal surgeries and now walking with crutches permanently. Now the arthritis has spread to fingers, neck wrist and both my knees. It is a cruel disease, but i don't let it beat me. i exercise regularly, go to the gym and to the pool for swimming twice a week. i take Turmeric and lots of supplements such as Cod liver oil, Omega 3 Rose hip syrup with Vit. C, Glucosamine and Condroitinto keep me under control. Since I started taking Turmeric, the progression of my Arthritis slowed down considerably. So April, yes, Turmeric does help. You need to research on it before you take it Read "Turmeric for health website. There is a lot of info on it. Hope it helps you.

I can't be certain, because I was adopted as a baby, but the consensus from medical personnel is that it is probably genetic. This is due to it being so advanced at a (relatively) early age....In my early 50's, I was told that I have the bones of a woman in her mid 70's (If that's the case, I wish she'd take them back, as I don't want them). Joking aside, two of my children are already experiencing problems with their joints, despite only being in their 20's, so that, too, lends credence to it being genetic.

@lesmal I’ve been on tegretol for over 30years and never realised that could effect it. Also had a lot of slipped discs when I was younger. So think mine was that, injury and inherited.

Hi everyone, I suffer osteoarthritis in my spine, both hips and both knees I had a knee replacement 4 years ago but won’t be having the other knee replaced, it hasn’t done much in making my pain any better. It runs in my family, my mom has it plus aunty sand sisters so I would say Defoe inherited unless obviously you have had an accident. Im 47 and have suffered with it in my spine from age ov 18. Docs say my mri scans showed I have a back ov an 82 yr old women. Also my knees am bone to bone, but u have to push urself and keeps pushing urself because with arthritis there’s no inbetween you either sit down and go stiff and hurt or walk or stand and do the same. I just take each day as it comes now, and carry on best I can.

The actual reason for osteoarthritis is unknown and several factors can play into developing this condition.
For different people the believed cause of osteoarthritis can change. For some, it is directly linked with agewhile others it can have developed from an injury, a joint abnormality or genetic factors.
So, what did you believe caused your osteoarthritis?
