For me chronic pain is simply something I live with, I design my life around avoiding pain. There is no treatment and painkillers have drawbacks but necessary to manage or lower the pain. So no my mental health has been unaffected, rather than wallowing in my own misery I look for solutions to reduce or live with the pain, stay safe!

I find I can cope in the day with chronic pain, but the nights are the worst, only sleep for about an hour at a time. I make sure I don't nap in the day. Somehow I get through the day ok. The best advice is as above, don't stress about it too much as it does make the pain worse. What works for one won't necessarily work for another, so listen to you body.

For me also its night pain and insomnia, pain killers really don't help. During the day I walk a lot and still work part time which helps me mentally.

For me, I am always in pain when I am not sitting down, and that is postural. having had 5 Spinal surgeries and the spine is fused from T9 to S4. I am bent from my hips and that is what is causing my back pain. I walk with crutches outdoors but don't use any aids in the house. I can not spend my life sitting down to avoid the pain. So I just get on with the house hold chores that keeps me very busy. I do go for walks with my crutches. I just put up with the pain and get on with life and house work and everything else. I have tried a few back braces but nothing helps me stand up erect. I don't take any pain killers as the pain does not ease when I am up and about, as the bent posture does not help as the pain killers do not help the bent position. I am not in pain in bed nor when I am sitting down. I use a repose cushion to sit upright when ever I sit at my computer desk and that helps.

@nineteen_gale Has your doctor ordered you a specially made back brace? When I first injured my back years ago, I was sent to a specialist and they did a plaster cast of my torso and then from there, made a hard plastic brace. It helped immensely !! When my husband broke his back in a helicopter crash, they made him the same type of brace. Maybe speak to your physician and see if he can order you such a brace. Good luck!

I have tried all sorts of braces, 3 bought on the internet and 3 specially made . ordered by Royal Orthopaedic hospital. No brace was of any help because I am bent from my hips rather than from my back which is fused and can not be changed. If I was bent from my back, brace would help. How ever I have a telephone consultation booked on 10th June to discuss orthotics and i will mention to him and see if I can get a face consultation to discuss the brace. Thank you so much for your kind thought. I will certainly act on it. I have seen those hard plastic braces worn by patients in my local hospital so I know that they can make one.
Thank you again. Take care and stay safe.

Chronic pain causes a variety of effects on the body, mind, sleep and relaxation but because the medication doesn't take it away one learns to live with it with the highs and lows.

Pain is 24/7 and a good day is also a bad day. Sleepless nights, living on tablets to ease my pain which don't really do anything. The mental health side has blown to pieces not wanting to go out after this lockdown even although I have both jags.
My wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Had her op and currently getting Chemo so I have to try and be as strong as I can for her. At times it has been in my mind is it really worth living the rest of my life like this?

Pain is just a that really irritating niggle at the back of every single thing I do, all the time! It doesn't let up, it's doesn't give in it's extremely stubborn!
