I don't think that there is any stigma attached to using any form of mobility. Unfortunately my good wife has to rely on her mobility stroller, to help her with her walking. She attends the Podiatrist in the Health Centre on Whitegate Drive. I have to go with her and I can see by the number of people who attend their how many people have to rely on mobility aids amazes me. I really don't think that there is any stigma attached to it.

@Seasider - More to the point, as a congenital cripple, I believe there is much more damage by bubble wrapping the impaired in palalatble references, such as handicapped and disabled.

The only mobility aids I feel deserve a stigma are the ones built like small cars fleeing around shopping centres. I've got nothing against mobility scooters in general as they provide much needed help to people it's just the ones I've described above I don't like.

Hello everyone,
How are you doing? 🌞
For many of us living with chronic illnesses, mobility aids like canes, walkers, or wheelchairs are essential to staying active and independent. However, using these aids can sometimes attract unwanted attention or judgment, as if needing a mobility aid means you’re “giving up” or seen as less capable. This stigma can make it uncomfortable to use mobility aids, even if they’re a vital part of daily life.
Although, we’re lucky that many mobility aids are accessible through the NHS, this doesn’t always take away the social challenges. It’s not uncommon for people to feel they’ll be judged or stared at, especially in public places. Despite all the awareness around accessibility, the stigma of needing a mobility aid is something a lot of people still face.
Have you felt judged or uncomfortable when using a mobility aid? Or maybe you’ve found ways to feel more confident about it?
