I discovered in y twenties that I was allergic to shellfish, most seriously to prawns but also, to a lower level, all shellfish. At first it was very difficult for people in the restaurant business to fully understand what food allergy really was! I was eve advised to "scrape off the shellfish sauce on a fish dish! Even today I find some people in the food industry really cannot get their haeds round the dangers of eating something they enjoy.

I cannot tolerate spicy, peppery or vinegary foods. ive never eaten spicy foods but since i got ORal Lichen PLanus 2 1/2years ago i really cant tolerate anything sharp. IT makes it difficult to eat out as chefs automatically use black pepper and such like in their meals. REady meals are out too as i cant tolerate them. i cook everything myself so at least i know whats gone in

I have a number of food allergies or intolerances. My worst is nuts and I have to carry an epi pen for it. My health is controlled by diet as I am diabetic and have a large hiatus hernia which means I can't eat citrus, vinegar, spicy food things like that. I also can't eat wheat gluten, too much dairy or any vegetables from the cabbage family. There are probably others which I can't remember off hand. My son teases me that it would be easier to say what I can eat!!

I am allergic to any form of coconut, which makes modern living almost intolerable. Coconut oil appears in so many things now, especially with palm oil slowly being replaced. Even chocolate sometimes has coconut oil added to make it shine! (Thorntons). I just trust to luck sometimes and live with some violent stomach pains.

I am allergic to wheat, dairy, protein and seafood.
I hate spices and also have allergies to any fruit with pips and seeds, ie oranges, apples, nartjies, pomegranate, blueberries etc.
I take Ceterizine daily which definitely helps.

Hi @Tigger.co.uk , thank you for commenting and sharing your story!
I was not talking about coeliac disease in my post, as I know it is a real disease, and not just an an allergy or an intolerance. Sorry if my message has led to a misunderstanding 🌹
I am very sorry to hear how much you've been suffering with this disease. I can understand how frustrating it can be when you cannot eat what everyone around you is eating, and especially, what you would have enjoyed eating. Hopefully you've found some other foods that you like.
Take care!

I'm very lucky? I have no allergies to food or drink, but on occasion, I get terrible flatulence after a good Veg Curry. I make them myself and I know what's gone in them, it doesn't matter how many times I try and change the receipt? I still have the problem, dining 'al fresco' is the answer but not when it's cold and raining. But Hey the BBQ season is coming up so things should get better? Especially if it's breezy.
Has anyone got the answer? Not giving up my curries.😷 Lol..Lol
Good luck to one and all. STAY SAFE, Richard

Hi everyone,
How are you feeling today?
In this discussion, I'd like you to share your experience with managing food allergies/food intolerances that you have.
Food allergy and food intolerance can cause similar symptoms, but their nature is completely different: an allergy always involves the reaction of the immune system, while food intolerance only affects the digestive system.
Managing food allergies or intolerances may be difficult when you have a chronic illness.
What are you allergic/intolerant to? How did you find out about your allergy/intolerance? How have you been adapting your diet since? Does it interfere with your condition?
You are welcome to share your stories here!
Take care!
