My Grandad who was a cockney with an answer to everything used to say smile and the world smiles with you , cry and you cry alone .He would then add that it takes less muscles to smile than to frown . Just thinking of him , and even though he has been dead for over 30 years talking to him always cheers me up so SMILE

Weenie, You are completely right in your thinking that this site really can make a difference to you. You will always receive support, never judgement from individuals who have first hand experience .
You really will benefit from posting often; the more posts the better.
Have a great day.

I try to look at the positive things but it's not always easy. I take Citalopram and am trying to wean myself off them - I'm down to 10mg every three days but not ready to cut back to 4 days yet. Something always seems to happen to drag me down again (split with my boyfriend on Monday morning this week); I've joined the local council gym and go 3 or 4 times a week, it's helped me with my mood as I get a buzz from it and it gets me out of the house (I get Cabin Fever easily). Also very good for taking out your frustrations!! I only plucked up the courage to join the gym a couple of weeks ago; I'm very self-conscious and hate the thought of people looking at me or watching me. I shouldn't need to worry about this - there's loads of different shapes and sizes of people at the gym and I find it inspiring now.
Spending this weekend with my old school friend as she'll take my mind off things - onwards and upwards and no looking back!

If I am feeling down I'm ridiculously intolerant sometimes my husband just needs to make eye contact and I'm growling. I'm so grateful that he is very laid back and understanding. I usually try and do something that doesn't involve anyone else when I'm feeling low I always make sure my family knows it's not them it's me and on the whole they are understanding

Winston Churchill was late arriving at his speaking engagement at a school. He had 5 minutes to give his speech. The great man stood up and growled, "Never give up." Then he shouted, "Never, never give up." He waited 2 minutes and then bellowed as only he could,"NEVER,NEVER,NEVER GIVE UP!"
It brings tears to my eyes every time I think of this. Whenever Sue fell down because of the MS, as I helped her up I would mutter these great words. I hope it helps.

Poor you schimmia , it sounds like you are having a tough time . Don't what to say about your relationship problems as I am so lucky with my husband who is so supportive It sounds like you are on the right lined with doing something to distract you , with me it is card making and writing .The only advice I can give you is to concentrate on your health and your own needs and ignore outsiders who put you down Do you take extra medicines when the weather or other things are making you feel bad .Take care and keep posting ,it helps to talk and we can understand some of your problems we don't judge either

Everybody can have a bad day, week or even month, when we feel blue, get grumpy and can’t manage to look on the bright side of things. At this moment we often get advice from others on what we should do in order to feel better, but nobody tells us what we should NOT do. However, when you are in low spirits, there are certain things you should avoid doing in order to feel better (or not to feel worse):
1. Blame yourself
It is impossible to be happy all the time. But sometimes it seems that that is exactly what people around us are waiting for, and it makes us repress our emotions and feelings. However, it is absolutely normal to feel sad, angry, frustrated, depressed or just be in a bad mood, so we need to learn to accept it and live with it.
2. Eat snacks
To finish off a bucket of ice-cream may seem to be a great idea but actually it isn’t. When you have finished with this snacking crisis, you will start blaming yourself and may end up feeling even worse than before. Try to resist to the temptation and chose a snack that you like but that isn’t so bad for your health or self-esteem. Or pick a nice activity that calms you down and cheers you up, instead of burying your sadness in a cookie jar.
3. Play the victim
If you are feeling down, it’s not the reason to accuse everybody of your problems and be depressed. Instead of playing the victim try being grateful for everything that you have accomplished in life. If this change of perspective doesn’t work, determine the exact steps you are to take in order to end with your weakness and begin to act.
4. Withdraw into yourself
It is a natural reflex, but it is essential not to give in to it: locking yourself away either physically or mentally would only make things worse. Try some natural antidepressants, such as going for a walk outdoors, enjoying fresh air and sunlight, doing some sport, etc. Activate your energy, and you will see how quickly your good mood will return to you.
