I'm one of the lucky ones who never had any symptoms and didn't even know I had gone through the menopause until my GP told me. Even after a hysterectomy everything was the same. No hot flushes, headaches or anything else. I can only think that had I suffered any symptoms then I would consider all kinds of treatment, even HRT.

I have been on HRT since my early 30 due to having everything removed. I’m now 54 so have been on it about 20 years. I have been very lucky and have not had any issues at all.

Had a hysterectomy in my 30s but they left my ovaries.... was on interferon for several years and couldn't decide whether the "tropical moments" were the flu-like side effects from the injections or just my age! Decided my body shouldn't have to deal with any more medications so didn't use HRT - I react badly to adhesive plasters so I wasn't keen on the idea of patches anyway. After years of living with an overheated system the neurologists decided that betaferon was no longer working for me and switched me on to fingolimod (hooray no more injecting myself.) Tropical moments no longer an issue and I'm still left wondering because I'm now at an age when I probably wouldn't still be having to deal with them!

I think if men had to deal with this then they would be in bed all the time !!! I’ve never had hrt in my life, hysterectomy in 2005 when I was 50, but as I said previous still let with ovaries and Fallopian tubes ...
the ovary grew to 19cm x 14 rotundas rugby ball shaped!
The cancer was attached to my bladder, bowel and rectum on the inside, my cocsix was very painful x

@Willish Though I've been told that hot flushes are no laughing matter, I must admit your "tropical moments" had me chuckling. Have a great day

I had horrible flushes but my GP didn’t agree to HRT. I went to my local sexual health clinic where I had a long chat about the pros and cons. I had looked at recent American studies, which is what stopped everyone in their tracks, and found that almost all women in the study were way over the age to be truly actually menopausal. I decided to take HRT for two years. It helped a bit but I also found out that there are loads of other prescription drugs which cause the same - if not worse flushes 🤦♀️ The big problem now is the lack of supply. Pharmacists just cannot get it as well as other hormonal drugs. Could be a Brexit baby boom ahead!!

I was unable to take HRT as I have autoimmune disease and it would clash with my other medication. So I had to work through horrid symptoms!

Hello Community Members
October is a month to raise awareness of menopause - both to understand how it affects women and the treatment and management of its symptoms.
One popular option is Hormone Replace Therapy or HRT which some physicians recommend to reduce the intensity of menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, nausea and cramps. But HRT also comes with risks such as: Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cancer and Uterine Cancer as well as Blood Clots, Heart Disease and Strokes.
Can I ask you a personal question? Have you taken or are you currently on HRT? Was it a good option for you? And do you think it's worth the potential health complications? Would you recommend it to other women?
I'm curious to hear your answers and I think a lot of other community members here on the forum could benefit from them as well!
Sincerely,
Michael from the Carenity Team
