Who is the government to decide if I should live or die?! This should be strictly up to the patient/patients family! If they have a life ending illness, or in excruciating, debilitating pain that can not be taken care of as well. Animals are euthanized so they don't suffer, humans should be afforded the same reasoning! NO ONE should have to suffer under any circumstances!! It is inhumane to make someone live because the gov't says so! England has it right! The US should follow suit!

I have taken part in the survey. I do not believe in assisted dying, but I would respect the wishes of the dying person. In this country we have DNR. Do not resuscitate. When the person has an incurable illness, and there is no hope, the doctors always ask the patient and the relatives if they wish to be resuscitated. If the patient and the relatives chose not to be resuscitated, it is then written in RED in their notes and their wishes are respected. I agree with that. But if the illness is not life threatening, and they simply want to die because they are not happy with their life, then I do not agree with ending their life simply because they are not happy with their life for any reason. That is my view any way.

I think assisted dying should be allowed in some cases where there is nothing more that can be done for people but with major precautions to ensure that pressure is not put on people. The one thing I must say we should never use is systems like the Liverpool Care PAthway which my husband’s uncle was subjected to at the end of his life. That was just horrific and barbarous. Basically he was just about starved and refused even a drunk and suffered far more than he would have done had euthanasia been permitted. It was inhuman.

Hello everyone
Many of you have reacted to the Vincent Lambert case and other cases of euthanasia or end-of-life for patients.
This subject raises ethical questions and questions the right of patients to decide on their end of life. We will soon launch a survey on this subject, in order to gather your opinions on this subject. The results will be shared in an article published in the Health Magazine.
Pending this survey, give your opinion on this subject now. Do you agree with the UK's laws concerning assisted dying which makes it punishable by 14 years' imprisonment? Have you ever thought about it for yourself or someone close to you? What do you think of what is being done in other countries?
Join this discussion and discuss it together!
