Basically yes to a degree for most diabetes 2 patients but there are age onset thin people who develop diabetes 2. If you are obese loss of weight can make a big difference, while you remain a diabetic you can control it completely by diet alone keeping weight down. I was injecting at one stage, got throat cancer, due to the treatment of cancer lost 6 stone in six weeks. At the end of the cancer treatment I returned to diet controlled, no tablets or injections. 5 years later and a return of two stone I am on tablets but use regular diet to avoid injecting, my pet hate in life!

@singist We were just talking in another discussion about the keto diet, apparently it's very good for weight loss and diabetes in general though to me it sounds very difficult.

@singist Hi singist
You can control the disease by diet if you start early enough. I didn’t control my condition very well in the first three or four years of my diagnosis. Then I was started of two types of insulin, one fast acting NovaRapid use before food and one slow acting Humulin I, the NovaRapid was for use when I had food or drink during the day and the Humilin I was for use overnight, a ‘background’, slow acting insulin.
Once started on insulin I thought that this was it, all downhill from now on? It was then that it was suggested that I was referred to a brilliant Specialist Diabetic Dietitian who showed me ‘how to eat’ to control my diabetes. My main downfall was carbohydrates, I loved my bread and potatoes. I was shown that eating the right foods would improve my overall condition. True enough a few ‘tweaks’ here and a few ‘tweaks’ there and my blood/glucose readings started to drop quite rapidly. I used to be around 10- 13 mmol then changing the diet I was running around 5-8 mmol, so quite a difference. I now take the NovaRapid prior to meals and as a ‘correcting dose’ if I have a piece of homemade fruit cake or sponge, or if I have chocolate, basically anything that would put my numbers up? I still take my Humulin I at night but during the my NovaRapid intake is take extraordinarily little if not none, providing I watch what I eat and drink.
Yes, singist you can control your disease, by what you consume. I don’t think that you can ‘totally’ reverse it but you sure can control it.
Hope all goes well for you?
STAY SAFE Richard

@singist I agree with @richard0804, I'm not sure it's fully possible to reverse diabetes or "eliminate" it, but you can reduce its effects and control it by taking care of yourself through a good diet, habits and sport.
