I was in hospital in march with pneumonia and still have the breathlessness and cough. I would appreciate anyone telling me if there is anything I can take to ease these. Thank you

I'd love to walk further and walk gradients without having to stop because I'm out of breath and totally drained.

@Kelvin we have to be realistic and work within our ability, a lot of people I speak to that have COPD suffer the same as you do. But consider trying to do more repetitions of a shorter distance, this “might” improve your breathing and fitness enabling you to get to longer distances. It certainly won’t be detrimental

@Kelvin I do try to help, but COPD is such a wide ranging complex disease, it’s hard to advise people correctly, as we all suffer in different ways with varying severity. Hope my advice works for you 😀👍

@Bonnie78 hi hope you are as well as you can be, sad to say, that any medical help with our disease is limited. The medication helps with the symptoms, but the only real weapon against this disease is activity, I don’t know you and have no idea how badly you have been bitten by the disease. If you can only walk to your front door and back, try doing that 6 times a day, if a flight of stairs is too much, take a chair to the bottom step then step up and down as soon as you start getting breathless sit down and recover, try to repeat that a few times, not necessarily all in one go. It has become apparent, no matter where we are in this world with the disease, that we are left to self manage. Activity within your ability will help, it has already been shown that stress, anxiety and depression can have a detrimental effect on your respiration, try to do relaxation and breathing exercises, then the hard part for a lot of people, trying to remain positive. Don’t get hooked on what you used to be able to do, it’s not all down to COPD some is age related, concentrate on now. If you have a bad week where you can’t do what you did the week before, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to do it again. Take care ❤️

If it was possible I would lose the breathlessness climbing stairs,it would mean so much as I have stopped one of my main hobbies because of it

@onslow don’t give up on it, it is possible to get some fitness back, if a flight of stairs is too much, take a chair to the bottom step, step up and down on it a few times if you get breathless, sit down and recover fully, either try again when you have recovered or do it again later. I know it’s hard but but you have to try and remain active, it’s the best if not the only weapon against the disease.. take care

In reply to the question which symptom of COPD I would get rid of I would say breathlessness. Debilitating at its worst, otherwise inconvenient. If walking even a short distance with a group, the symptom together with RA pain makes life somewhat miserable.

Hi everyone! 😊
It’s been a while since this topic was discussed, but I think it’s still such a relatable question for so many of us living with COPD. With everything that’s happened since this conversation started, I’d love to hear your thoughts again.

If you could eliminate a COPD symptom right now, which one would it be and why? For those who have been managing the condition for a while, has your answer changed over time? What do you feel is your biggest struggle at the moment?
Let’s support one another and see if we’re facing similar challenges.
Take care, and looking forward to your responses!
