I gave up gluten a few years ago due to stomach issues, I had blood tests to check for Coeliac but it didn't show anything. I know that blood tests don't always show this disease, so I decided to do something about my diet and it has helped. I do occasionally treat myself to something with gluten in but only now and then. I try to include omega three in the form of supplements and eat a healthy diet. Though this is not enough where Osteoarthritis is concerned but it can reduce inflammation within the body so Its worth a go

Hello everyone,
A new American study published in the JNCI Cancer Spectrum has given some insights on diet and cancer.
About 80,110 new cases of cancer among people over 20 years of age in the United States are estimated to be caused by poor nutrition, representing 5.2% of new diagnoses of invasive cancers in 2015. These figures are about the same as cancers due to alcohol consumption.
Seven dietary factors were assessed: low consumption of vegetables, fruit, whole grains and dairy products, and high consumption of processed meats, red meats and sweetened drinks (such as sodas).
The majority of cancer cases were attributed to:
- Low consumption of whole grains
- Low consumption of dairy products
- High consumption of processed meat
- Low consumption of fruit and vegetables
- A high consumption of red meat
- And finally to a high consumption of sweetened drinks
The most diet-related cancers are colon and rectal cancers.
Do you eat a lot of the recommended foods? Have you changed or do you plan to change your consumption of harmful foods?

I try to eat a balanced diet, but like most people like a treat now and again. I do eat a gluten free diet due to intolerance. I like to eat a vegetarian meal 3 times a week. I think everything in moderation is the key

@wednesday - Interestingly, for me, an unbalanced diet has more benefits than a balanced intake. Because I buy very few groceries which are not marked down; my weight, blood sugar and finances are much more manageable.
Because there are no snack foods in our house, impulse eating is not an issue. Also, I save several thousands dollars,,per year, on groceries alone.

@Courtney_J - For me, aggressively avoiding take-out is a significant benefit to my physical, financial and emotional stability. I limit it to holidays and very special achievements. (Some of this is due to the fact a very disciplined life-style, and outlook, leaves me with nobody to appreciate, and celebrate, those landmarks)
The best part is: There is no time for remorse; because, I don't have to share my pizza.

@Courtney_J I think eating more "holistically" is a good idea. I don't know about eliminating gluten or dairy, or whatever the like (unless you have an allergy or coeliacs, of course), but I try eat in a more balanced way, with emphasis on the fruit and veg. It's not easy with the fast paced lives we live, but the wife and I try to avoid prepared foods and make things ourselves and we try to take true pleasure from eating. I think with everything so rushed these days we eat just to not be hungry or to "get on with it" and not for the pleasure of the taste and experience of a good meal. It's nice to slow down a bit and enjoy a quiet moment over food.

hi there i have to be on a strict food diet as i have a food intolerance icant eat anything that contains gluten or wheat, also i can't have to much salt, or sugar as i have type 1 diabetes and a liver disease so have to be very careful it does get worrying at times but as long as i eat lots of vedge ,and fruit i should be ok its it's not great but i do manage my husband checks all the labels coeliac disease is the worse disease anyone can have as it causes so many other illnesses, i get so cross when labels say suitable for vegetarians and vegans, theres is not a illness thats there choice,. we dont have a choice so why cant they say suitable for coeliacs instead of free from because sometimes its not suitable for us many times i have eaten free from and i have been really sick with stomach cramps and violently sick ,when you go to drs surgeries and hospitals you never see any advice pamphlets and i think if children got tested then they wouldnt have to wait years to find out ,i was 49 when i found out ,i had loads of illnesses, anorexic ,anemia, brittle bones, and my foliate level was 2.5 had no immunity, and was very close to dying ,until a village dr said i was to have a biopsy that is when they discovered that it was coeliac disease, all the foods that i had eaten over the years it had poisoned the lining of my stomach ,and i was put on a wheat and gluten free diet ,if i had carried on eating the normal food i would have eventually died ,that is also why i had difficult births ,so i would like to see more information out there on tv etc better labelling ,and more done for finding a proper cure .Tiger

Hi Tigger, its Glojo. Long time since I've been on here .Ive been in and out of hospital so many times that I've lost count. Eighteen months ago I was taken in hospital after having a mini stroke. When I was in hospital I tried to turn over in bed, but the pain in my stomach was so bad I started to groan a bit.The Consultant heard me and asked me what was wrong. I told him about the pains that I was having in my stomach and it went from there. I had an Ultrasound scan, then an MRI, then a CT Scan. Then a MRCP Scan. They thought that I had Pancreatic Cancer. That's what my Mum had and she passed away 6 months after being diagnosed. I told the Doctor that I wanted to go home, I'd really had enough of it all. I've got 2 Heart Valves that aren't working properly, but they can't find a Surgeon prepared to try replacement surgery because I wouldn't survive it. I only have 1 Lung working, got Angina, COPD and Asthma. I've got Fibromyalgia which cripples me with pain, Rheumatoid Arthritis ,Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis. This year i had my Gallstones and gallbladder removed. Had 2 Hernia repairs done in my stomach. But since having my Gallbladder removed I've been in a heck of a lot more pain. than before I had it done. 💦💦. My Fibromyalgia pains is much worse now than it's e er been
