I’m on a low residue diet, therefore not too much fruit, veg and other fibre. I also do not tolerate vinegary or pppery or spicy food. That all makes it very difficult to eat out. I have to make excuses to not go to Christmas meals out

I am diabetic, can't eat nuts, wheat gluten , hot spicy food and limited carbs. At one time I rarely went out and then would only go to, 2 places where they knew me. I have had some interesting experiences when using other places, I asked for something instead of toast explaining why and was given fried bread which is even worse because of the fat. Now days I will go out much more and explain what the problem is and have learnt to instead of putting up with things and just leaving things to speak up and insist on them accomadating me within reason Eateries need to educate there staff better and after Xmas intend to start a campaign up on these lines.
If I visit friends we have come to the understanding that it is easier to do a more buffet style meal so I can pick and choice. I often take my own bread for example to make it easier If they aren't prepared to accommodate me then they aren't proper friends and I don't go round again. It is not my fault that for my health I can't eat certain foods and I refuse to feel guilty any more or be a victim

@JazzyC You're right to not feel guilty, it isn't your fault that you have health problems.
I try to avoid a lot of salt.

My son usually cooks Xmas Dinner and since we have similar tastes in food it isn't that hard. We don't eat a lot of potatoes and neither of us like Xmas pudding, my mum made the best one out and nothing compares so we don't eat it. Our one indulgence is homemade Xmas cake. It was a shock last year as he was away in Australia but the up side was we made 2 cakes 1 for Xmas and 1 for when he came home!

Hello members,
It's the end of the year: Christmastime, Yule Tide, the only time of year where public gluttony is not only acceptable but actually encouraged! So, what do all of us who have chronic health conditions and have to watch what we eat get out of all of this?
I need your help. What are you favourite Christmas, holiday, end of year dishes that you can still enjoy without aggravating your condition? What do you miss eating most?
Is it a Christmas turkey? Is it a whole box of M&S mince pies (not recommended)? Let me know in the comments below. Or better yet, share a recipe with the other members!

I'm a lover of pastries, cakes, biscuits, and more!
Give me a couple of slices of Christmas cake and some mince pies and I'll be happy.
I'm not worried about the turkey, gammon, chicken, roast potatoes and vegetables!
Then a couple of cups of coffee with a box of Quality Street chocolates should do the trick of keeping me satisfied!

For years as a family we have had gammon on Christmas eve. When my mum was alive she made the family Christmas puddings and I have made the families Christmas cakes. The rest of the celebrations is not fixed, this year we are going to my daughters for Christmas day and her husband who is a wonderful cook will no doubt pile our plates high,yummy

I just make smaller portions as there is always extra Stuff cooked, neither my wife or I like sprouts so the veg is normally cauliflower ( for me ) broccoli ( for my wife ) peas swede carrots green beans, my wife Michelle is not fussed about turkey but likes chicken and beef so we have chicken beef pork as I like all these, Yorkshire puddings pigs in blankets ( I make my own ) sausage meat and stuffing for Michelle and I do an apple sauce for my pork , and I make a chicken gravy and beef gravy. I also have a slicer and slice up the beef and pork so we can have sandwiches later or the next day, the chicken is ploated and made into broth or curry. We normally have a dessert around 4-5 pm as our dinner is around 1.30pm either Christmas pudding ( small) or some ice cream. Merry Christmas to all at Carenity and all the members too.

Sounds tasteful to me but must admit I'm not a vegetable fan!
I'd enjoy the dessert alone without the main meal... Perhaps courier a sample so I can give my opinion!

Christmas can be a difficult time if you’re dealing with an illness that affects your diet because it is a holiday that is fully concentrated around meal times and celebrating with big dinners. If you’re suffering from an illness that stops you from being able to eat what you like, this is made even more difficult when celebrating Christmas.
We would like to know what you eat at Christmas? Do you make a special exception for Christmas day and eat what you like, or do you stay vigilant with your diet? Do you have any tips for making classical Christmas dishes more heart and body friendly?
