Hi Ya’ll
I hope you are all as well as can be expected?? I’m fairing surprisingly good at the moment having just gotten over yet another AS flare up. Keep popping the pills.
My problem with my diabetes is mainly weight control or maybe I should say lack of??? I am 19 st 2 lbs (121.5 Kg) this morning, I just cannot lose weight? I try and watch what and how much I eat by keeping a food diary (I have done so for six years since I started on insulin). If I have little or no carbs at a meal then it’s no insulin, if I have a quantity of carbs then it may be 5 or 10 units of insulin. To stop ‘night-time hypos’ if my blood/ glucose reading is LESS than 10 mmol/L then I don’t take any NovaRapid Insulin, just my Humulin I. If it is over then I take a small ‘corrective’ dose 2-10 units depending on how high my readings are.
The next thing that worries me at differing degrees at different times is my Neuropathy, especially in my feet. From the balls of my feet to the tips of my toes is feeling-less, at times I have a job to balance properly if my symptoms are particularly bad. Something more that I must get used to??
Non-diabetics just cannot comprehend diabetes the disease, they just have no idea how it affects us? How a small drink or how some foods can send us ‘rocketing’ or ‘plummeting’ to a hypo. Education is the only way to get it across to people how we are affected, then maybe then they will begin to understand our plight?
STAY SAFE my friends
Richard

@richard0804 I completely agree, for me the weight control is also a bit of a nightmare. My husband and I have both struggled with it and balancing diet and insulin and I think there's a significant learning curve for those who are newly diagnosed. It's still hard after 10+ years of this!
My husband has kidney damage from his diabetes (nephropathy) and I worry a bit about it. He's not particularly concerned it because he takes his medicines as he should, but I'm worried it'll push him into renal failure eventually.

Good day all
i need some advice I am insulin resistant and have AS and I take 1000mg of metformin twice a day . I eat very healthy and yes do skip meals every now and then when I am on my own .
trouble is I need to find a diet / way of life of eating that I don’t have to pay for . I don’t have the funds after all my medication for AS . Diabetes and high blood pressure and paying all the bills and supporting my children to actually pay for a diet / eating plan . Has anyone had any luck with a eating plan that they could share please or email me directly on resgard70@gmail.com. I really would appreciate it .
have an amazing day

@CandyG For me I have been using a meat free diet mostly to stop putting weight and reducing it a little. Not vegan as it is unhealthy and I enjoy meat but simply you body can consume four times as much veg to the equivalent amount of meat. It works for me and my blood sugar levels remains very controlled. Exercise is essential to loosing weight but as a 'crip' I don't have that luxury. But I would say rather than replying to you direct doing it on an open forum may be useful to others, say safe!

CandyG. Where do you live? in England I hope. A diabetes sufferer in England is exempt from paying for medication. That covers any medication you get for other problems as well. Enquire at your surgery for possible forms you may have to complete - I cannot now remember what I did, it was over 25 years ago.
The people at DiabetesUK (0345 123 2399 Help line. week days 9am-6pm) Their magazine called Balance is extremely helpful and often has good cheap recipes . helpline@diabetes.org.uk will also get you help.

Hello all,
How are you?
Type 2 diabetes, like most chronic conditions, can challenge aspects of life or make one feel frustrated. I thought today we could talk about those challenges.
What is the most difficult or frustrating aspect of living with type 2 diabetes? Is it related to your diabetes care and management, or is it related to something external? Is it the lack of support or understanding from others, the need to closely monitor blood sugar levels, the need to watch weight and diet? Feel free to share here!
