Yes I am on a "strict" diet. I have to give credit to my wife who has turned the whole family up-side down with both nutrition and exercise since I was diagnosed. In the beginning I felt limited in my diet, but with time we have gotten really good at making healthy choices - and there's still room for cake. I have also gotten better at managing my blood sugar now, which is just as important. I make sure to get the right amount of starchy carbs in every meal and keep the intake of sugars on a low. But I am not on a specific diet.

By changing the way i eat i have managed to drop 4 stone, all my diabetic medication (metformin and gliclazide) and still keep my bloods around 5/6. I have never felt better. The advice dispensed by the 'diabetic experts' at my clinic was helpful to begin with but when my blood sugars plateaued around 12 (maintained by constantly increasing my meds) I decided i needed to try something different. What i learned from a lady in my area has led me to believe that the info i was given at my surgery is wrong (not deliberately of course, i genuinely believe the medics give out info they believe to be accurate). After changing the way i ate the results at my reviews are phenomenal. I was told i had excellent control and was symptom free. The nurse said they could look at reducing my meds and was gobsmacked to hear that I hadn't taken any for several months (though she was
less impressed that i had taken it upon myself to stop the meds and my GP was unaware) My control was due purely to the change in my eating (which was different to what i had been advised by the 'experts'), as I say, I'm now substantially lighter and fitter than i previously was and am fully armed with information that can keep me healthy.
