I have been offered to go swimming, exercise Gyms ect...But I have my own limits. I would love to go swimming, not that I can swim though plus I have too many health conditions that get in the way. I exercise at home at my own speed doing exercises that I am able to do and it works for me, slowly but sure. I have Type2 Diabetes, Asthma, C.O.P.D. stage2, and other health conditions that stop me from doing a lot of things that I would love to do. I have lost 1 stone since New Year.

Well done Astra You have strong will power However, if you are like me you need to be motivated by others. There are many Health clubs slimming clubs dance classes and leisure centres with swimming pools. I am asking that the nhs fund diabetics in order for them to be able to attend such clubs and fight type 2 with excercise. Instead we have people who can afford these prices attending and diabetics suffering at home.

@maracatu Hi, thnx for your comment. Yes, I have got a lot of will power but, at times I need to have something to push me to get started. Well, what made me start was my own health as it was I was finding things hard to do, hard to breath. I have many other health conditions that make me feel so tired and fatigued. And, my hubby is going through bad times with his C.O.P.D. He is at stage3, Emphycema, Heart Disease He is always choking to clear his throat. And he has got many other illnesses. He has had 2 Heart Attacks. After the first Heart Attack he gave up smoking, he Had been smoking since his was very young around 6year lighting his dads ciggies and 13 years old when he actually started smoking himself 20 - 40 a day, sometimes more. He is 65years old now. Then he started drinking 2-3 bottles of red wine a night to help with his nerves. A few weeks back now his GP told him if he didn't stop the drinking he would be dead withing 3 months. Now he drinks water all the time and changed his diet. He has lost over 1 stone, mostly fluid. He was so bloated and looked about 9months pregnant when he was drinking.

Well done Astra and well done to your husband. However I am looking to put pressure on the nhs to support my idea of offering Diabetes patients free excercise classes and free diet club membership nationwide. What they spend today will save millions for the future.

I agree with the free exercise classes and free diet club memberships for diabetics. A lot of people who have diabetes don't exercise as much as they should and need the support. I hope you succeed to accomplish what you are doing.

Hello, my exercise is working in my garden from time to time, and walking my dog ( I try to do it every day), for at least 15 minutes. Walking just like that without reason is not very attractive for me, though my doctor says it's the best. What other "sport" can we do?

I don't have a car and find myself walking everywhere locally. Always feel better afterwards and don't mind what the weather is doing.I'm 47 and not keen on running or the gym so walking is ideal for me,especially green spaces like parks etc.Swimming is also something I enjoy,good all round exercise.

I do yoga twice a week, and I walk a lot. It seems to be the best exercise - walking. You can do it at your own pace and in the place you like.

I was offered 12 free slimming world classes but because of my various health issues didn't find them very helpful . I was given no advice regarding my diabetes and when I brought up the problems I was having finding recipes to suit my limited diet ( I can't eat nuts , pulses , gluten and lots of other things ) for medical reasons was basically told by one member to stop being so fussy and try these things .If you are going to offer free help it must be tailored to the individual

There are various options that can be applied for through your GP to attend an array of short term fitness regimes. Using fitness centres was an issue for me as their staff had not the skills or knowledge to deal with people with varied medical conditions. Swimming is a difficult one these days as the various groups that have access to the pool. Trying to fit in between adult, children, school, minority groups etc. sessions is a minefield. Combining with your children seems a no no these days and times to attend so limited. Dieting with the NHS usually involved a weighing session and discussion once a month.
Exercise can be achieved at a personal level, short walks or accompanying a friend with a dog walk etc. Try a few exercises indoors and aids as part of a regular routine!

I wonder if there are any pressure groups we could approach with a view to asking if the government/nhs would subsidise leisure clubs diet clubs and sports clubs so that diabetics could go to a club or class of their choosing and get regular excercise to assist in the health of their illness.
