Hi all,
How are you today? I thought I would revive this discussion as it may be interesting for us to share!
Both genetic and environmental factors have been found to play a strong role in the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Have you found the same to be true within your family? Does anyone else in your family have diabetes, or are you the only one? If you do have a family history, did that knowledge change your lifestyle or approach to diabetes?

@Courtney_J Yes, my father had diabetes. I don't think having it in the family changed anything about my life or habits really, but when I was diagnosed the fact that I was familiar with it and what life with diabetes is like I think I was more prepared to take it all on. I wasn't scared, I guess. I imagine it can be frightening for people who don't have experience with it.

Yes I have two brothers who are diabetics and suspect our mother was pre diabetic ll. But years ago the disease was missed mostly by people and the medical profession. But my wife is pre diabetic, her brother diabetic and so was her mother, clearly showing a genetic link.

This discussion will be dedicated to family history of diabetes.
Are you the only person in your family who has diabetes? If not, what other family member does it concern?
If diabetes was already present in your family before you were diagnosed, how did the knowledge of it affect you and your lifestyle?
If this topic interests you and you have something to share, don't hesitate!
