The general opinion I have read on this alcohol 60%, Aloe gel and a few drops of Tea tree oil. In theory Vodka etc. would do but rubbing alcohol is a easier option and all including specific preparations at your chemist or online delivered to your door!

@RobertLondon @robjmckinney Thank you both for the "recipes", these are particularly handy in this difficult time.

Take care,

@RobertLondon Thank you for this. Is methylated spirits safe for the skin? Isn't that what's used in camping stoves?

I have read that repeated usage is not good as it strips the oily layer off the skin but occasional or emergency use should be ok if soap/water is not available. I assume that is why the aloe vera is part of the recipe. I am not an expert and am simply passing on this recipe from a friend in Australia. Metholated spirits are almost pure alchohol which is why it is effective against this virus.

It has been impossible to obtain hand sanitizer for some time and as it is not always possible to use soap and water in some settings an Australian friend of mine has posted a possible DIY solution to this problem. I do not know for sure if this will work but it seems likely. Mix up a solution of two parts metholated spirits with one part aloe vera, possibly source this from last years after sun.
