Hazel, I completely agree with you ; we tend to be our own worst enemy. Instead of being gentle , we are so critical of ourselves.
Little by little, day by day is a great approach.
The important thing is to accept that we will have bad days and not to over analyze.
Talking is an amazing tool plus it is free.
Taking time out for ourselves, doing things for us that will in turn release those important "happy hormones" can only be beneficial.
I do hope that you have a great week.
Big hugs, x

Hazel thank you for sharing. I had an awful wkend. The winter is looming and my SAD kicked in, result: hibernation mode. PJ's the whole wkend and didn't eat or take my meds til early Eve. Then I berate myself aka the naughty child. everybody else is doing doing doing. I just opted out. Since mon I have been on a doing journey lol. My mood has lifted and I've been able to do things I've put off for months. I have SAD bipolar so the seasonal change to autumn sure effects my moods and my activities or non activities. I even had a shower today. That is big stuff for me when I'm in a low energy place. I work four days a week and to just be able to get out of bed and dress myself is like climbing Everest when I'm depressed. I just numb out. Hibernation aka isolation. It's awful. One friend tells me I'm just lazy and that procrastion causes my depression. Which is it? The chicken or the egg?

Hi Barney,
How are you ?
It really is a difficult place to be isn't it?
Learn to be gentle with yourself, accept the 2 steps forward, 3 steps back attitude.
On good days ,go for it.
Little by little, day by day.
You can get through it.
Always here to chat to help you through.

Don't you find some days that you forget you are an unique individual and this means that in your own way if you achieve your own unique goals for today then you should give yourself a pat on the back and remind yourself that you did well.
I found this helped me to achieve more things, because it helped build my confidence.
I started by setting my goals the night before and it initially just started with a list of
Get up
Have something to eat and drink and take medication
Shower
Get Dressed.
Some days I would do this and feel really good.
Other days I'd just manage to get up and take my medication. I'd feel okay when I did this.
Other days I couldn't even get up. but I had made my goals. So rather than beat myself up about it I learned to agree it was a bad day, but tomorrow will be better and I would make my list for the next day.
Last week was a bad week for me and I was back to setting daily goals for just getting up and making sure I ate, took my medication and got dressed. Each day I'd add extra goals to the list once I had completed the ones on the list and at some point in the evening I'd play a song that makes me feel good or find an image on the internet that I liked for that day.
I also find getting encouragement from someone else helps. So today as I am feeling good I want to pass on an image to you all and I hope it helps you to feel better about yourself. In our own unique way we can have awesome days and meet those goals.
So I wish you all good luck with achieving your goals for today and I hope you have even a little bit of awesome today.
I hope this helps you today.
