Two hundred years ago today, on April 11th 1817, Parkinson's disease was recognised as a medical condition.
April 11 is now World Parkinson's disease Day, celebrated all over the world by patients, patients' families, patoent organisations and associations and research institues. The goal of this day is to raise awareness of the disease and to attract public's and government's attention to the necessity and importance of medical research in the field of Parkinson's disease. According to Parkinson's UK, the last significant drug was discovered 50 years ago.
This week is also Parkinson's Awareness week, from April 10 to April 16, with several events taking place across the UK. To learn more about these events, click here.
Parkinson's UK, the European Parkinson's disease Association and other organisations invite you to show your support for Parkinson's patients and to share information on Parkinson's disease on your social networks.
You can get more information on the Awareness day and week, and also on how to get involved, on Parkinson's UK and European Parkinson's Disease Association websites.
