Today, April 7th is the World Health Day.
First held on April 7th, 1950 to mark the founding of World Health Organisation, it now takes place every year, with a focus on a particular theme. Thus, in 2015 World Health Day was dedicated to food safety, and in 2016 - to diabetes.
This year the Day's theme is depression. The aim of the campaign organised by the WHO is to bring attention to different kinds of depression in people of different ages, from different walks of life, in various life situations (teenagers, young parents, middle-aged people, people over 60 years old).
Tha core of the campaign is the importance of talking about depression: with family, friends, social and medical workers, as well as publicly on the media. According to WHO, it is vital to let people know that depression is a common disease that can affect anyone, and that it can be treated and even prevented. The slogan of this year's campaign is "Depression: Let's talk!"
