@Silverlady thank you for sharing! Was it a routine check-up? Did you have any symptoms?

@Silverlady Hi,
your question here risks to get lost among other comments, I'm afraid, so I suggest you start a new discussion in the "Good to know group" here: https://member.carenity.co.uk/forum/good-to-know-53
I've also just opened another discussion on Fatigue: https://member.carenity.co.uk/forum/good-to-know/fatigue-how-do-you-cope-with-it-4675, hopefully other members will share their experience in handling extreme tiredness.
Let me know if you need any help!
Take care
Courtney

@Courtney_J
after I had my colostomy formed I began to suffer from extreme tiredness. Eventually one day I got to the state I couldn’t think to answer my husband, I couldn’t see properly and I had produced no urine for 15 hours. When I was taken to hospital it was discovered I had completely depleted my body of most minerals and salts . My pulse was racing but my BP was 70/40. My kidneys had packed in and the rest of my body was on its way to shutting down. I had to have iron transfusions, multiple vitamins and minerals and rehydration. That’s when they discovered I only had 1.2 m of small bowel and had a very high output of poo ( measured in hospital at 3750 mls in 24 hours). I’m now on a drug which helps to slow down ,y output and although I still have what’s called a high output it’s generally less than half that.

@Courtney_J HI Courtney, I've had anaemia, iron and magnesium deficiency, several times in fact. It's probably linked to my other health issues. But it did provoke fatigue, which was hard to deal with. I was also getting lots of headaches and wasn't really a happy person at the time, so I guess it also affects the mood. I also didn't have much of an appetite. Hope this helps.

I had a private medical through a company called Bluecrest , they do so many tests and then send you the results , I then took the results to my GP who gave me a 6week course of vitamin D one tablet a day for 6weeks then advised me to buy my own so I prefer drops not a tablet taker and been on it for a year , think it had helped a little as medical this year was an improvement but still tired some days , but heyho 80 next birthday so better than some people have to be thankful for that .

After I had my Urostomy revised the surgeon also took out most of my small bowel due to adhesions. When I was subsequently given a colostomy I suddenly was pouring out liquid poo through it. I ended up collapsing. Unable to even think. So weak I could hardly lift one foot after the other one. Kidneys stopped working . Pulse racing but BP 70/40 .Was diagnosed that I had depleted my body of all essential nutrients and vitamins. Ended up with iron infusions, multiple vitamins and minerals including 3 salt tablets a day

Hello all,
I hope you've been doing well lately.
Did you know that certain vitamin deficiencies can cause extreme fatigue? Other symptoms may also develop: they will depend on the vitamin or mineral that our body lacks.
Here are a few examples of what vitamin deficiencies can provoke:
Minerals deficiency, like that of iron or magnesium, can also cause fatigue and a number of other symptoms, such as heart palpitations, pale skin, hair loss, headaches and dizziness in the case of iron deficiency, and anxiety, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, muscle spasms, etc in the case of magnesium deficiency.
Have you ever experienced such symptoms due to a vitamin or mineral deficiency? How did you find out what was the cause? What was the treatment you got?
Feel free to share and discuss in the comments below!
Take care,
Courtney
