Good idea, my wife would benefit from a 'pill' if it works, the slimming pill worked on me, so I feel new medicine can really save money long term.

@robjmckinney - If it is "OTC", it is not a [ medicine ]. It is a health hazard.

@LifeDelineator Worked for me, I've lost a stone and half way through, like all drugs they have side effects but my surgery kept a close eye. But if it leads to a net benefit of getting 10% of diabetics to lose weight and keep it off, it will save billions!

@robjmckinney - ...at the risk of, as always, health endangering side effects?

In truths you've got to want to give up fags.
I'm passively on fags my family smoke and I don't see why I should sit in the cold.
Nagging don't work either.
For that reason I'm gonna say it's not going to work.

i think that like patches it can help some people, but only if they want to stop. when i was last in hospital a man was asking for stop smoking patches, but also going outside to smoke. the nurse refused to give him and patches . like stop smoking patches people will get prescribed the tablet, but then carry on smoking ,wasting money and scarce health resources if people want to really give up smoking they should if possible, pay for help such as hypnotherapy as i did many years ago. i had 2 hypnotheraphy sessions, but stopped after the first. that was in October 1992 and i have never touched 1 since (32 years AGO)

Hello everyone, how are you doing? 😊
The NHS is rolling out a free antismoking pill called varenicline, along with behavioral support programs, to help British smokers quit for good. This initiative could save lives and potentially reduce the NHS’s costs for treating smoking-related illnesses, which currently total £2.5 billion annually. 🚭
Do you think this new antismoking pill will help smokers successfully quit? Have you or someone you know tried varenicline or similar treatments before? What do you think of this approach to tackling smoking-related health issues?
