The media does NOT accurately portray chronic illnesses! I can't think of any show/film that displays MS, or any other chronic diseases correctly, and that needs to change. Otherwise healthy people would have a stereotyped idea, and aren't able to provide appropriate assistance.

@cwright17 - Cripples are not portrayed they are betrayed, by a world that resents being confronted by "those people".

@LifeDelineator exactly! This makes me sad, and furious, to the point where I've had to reach out to my council for accessible stuff! There's the small road at the end of my street. I've had an issue getting my wheelchair over it when I'm out and about, so I got in contact with the council, having to explain to them what it means for those in wheelchairs. The train station is finally getting a lift put in, from ground level where the ticket office is, down to the actual platform level! I didn't kick up a fuss about that, I just asked the rail company who oversees it why they haven't yet installed it! Was meant to go in in 2019! 😒 Even getting to disabled toilets is a nightmare! Once went to a place for breakfast, I needed the toilet that was upstairs, but the bloody lift was was of order! So, I struggled to get upstairs, and when I came down I told my husband we're going somewhere else. We've not been back to that one, so I have no idea if it's repaired 😒

@cwright17 - I am a bit confused. How does any of this pertain to the dispute, of support groups, in my reply?

If only it was as terrible as minorities tell each other it is. Pigmentation is nothing compared to physical impairments. At least, they have the entire able bodied world to support them. Cripples don’t even have part of that. It is much easier to fight for tolerance when you already have fellowship.

Well our government has just declared war on the sick, lame and lazy in a campaign to cut those on sickness benefits. So preceeding this will be all out propaganda showing bad we are for being crips etc. Much tougher tests and criteria for claiming benefits while ignoring the cultural and social issues causing the high levels of claimants. A rough ride will begin over the next few years and things will not be pretty for us crips etc.

Hello everyone, how are you doing?
The way chronic illness is portrayed in the media can have a big impact on public perceptions and influence how people with these conditions are treated. Some feel that chronic illness is oversimplified or even glamorized, while others feel that the real, daily struggles of patients are ignored. 🤔
In many places, the media tends to focus on “miracle cures,” extreme cases, or inspirational narratives, which can give the public a limited view of what it’s really like to live with a chronic condition.
Does this portrayal match your experience? Or do you think that the media provides an unrealistic picture of living with chronic illness? Has it affected how people treat or understand you?
