I often use my spoons for the whole week in one day, then have nothing left for the rest of the week. I know I should pace myself, but on a good day, I do everything on my to do list and regret it for the rest of the week.
Take today: Hoovered through, tidied the house, cleaned the fish tank, did a pile of ironing, fitted a new loo seat (don't ask!) and now I am shattered and I still have to cook tea and tidy up afterwards.
My family don't understand that if I do too much on one day, that I will be tired for days afterwards. They think that a good night's sleep solves everything. I sometimes wish that I could swap bodies with them for a short time so that they know what I am feeling, because if you have never had a chronic illness that saps your very life force, you can never imagine how it feels. I often get told to join them on a walk, because a bit of fresh air will make me feel better - nope, it'll just make me even more tired ๐

Have you heard of the spoon theory? Itโs a simple yet powerful way to explain what itโs like to live with chronic illness, fatigue, or limited energy. The concept was created by Christine Miserandino, who used spoons as a metaphor for the finite energy a person has each day.
Hereโs how it works: Imagine you start the day with 12 spoons. Every activity, be it getting out of bed, making breakfast, or taking a shower, costs you a spoon. For people with chronic conditions, even small tasks can use up more spoons than expected, leaving them with fewer for the rest of the day.
The challenge? Managing your spoons wisely to get through the day without running out. Itโs about prioritizing whatโs most important while recognizing your limits.
