@Courtney_J If it's overwhelming, as in I can't keep my eyes open, I have a nap for up to an hour, even 10 minutes gives me that boost. If it's only slight, I get up and do something to keep myself awake.

@Courtney_J theres a couple of things that help me overcome fatigue. 1 i will close my eyes and do breathing through my nose and then mouth. 2 clench and release my fists, as this helps me also chill out
Or i get up end exercise to get the adrenalin going this could be either in the form of ,Yoga, using my dumbells, my wondercore exerciser or my treadmill, for around 10 to 20 minutes. Both metheds help me as does trying to write poetry or sing a favourite song.
I am going back to hibernation for awhile, as i dont use the site much now, because of the venom spouted by people who enjoy upsetting other members. I joined to help and support members through my advice , from my life experiences and health issues and ways of coping. But its time for me to hibernate and give other caring people space to help others, in their own kind ways . Cheers everyone. Mr chipps

@Courtney_J Every Friday morning at the Yeovil Library on the top floor with a TAI CHI instructor, and anytime that I want at home on my own. It is also possible to find examples of TAI CHI on computer, or you can find books at the Library and on line.

Hi, I just had a bad infection, which left me bedridden for almost two weeks. I was so ill, and so exhausted, that there was nothing I could do, I was just lying in my bed the whole time, and sleeping whenever I could, although it wasn't easy as I was constantly woken up by my own coughing

@dpoc02 How are you feeling now? I have only just read this comment and hope you are feeling better. Perhaps this was Covid and needed further testing. Please let us know, otherwise please get tested.

@Courtney_J ... Thank you for bringing up this topic. I am sure many members can relate and some interesting points of view will be made.
I have found my new epilepsy medication, Pregabalin, makes me more tired than usual, and will be bringing up this point with my Neurologist when next under review. Apart from that, I do not usually suffer from fatigue.

@mr chipps Thing is, they are not painkillers, they're (allegedly) nerve inhibitors, similar to Amitryptiline. I take Oxycodone and Nefopam, with Oramorph for breakthrough pain at night (plus other meds for other problems) and none of that completely eradicates the pain; although they're not meant to do that or we'd do more damage than good!
I find heat helps more than cold, so I have a full spine heated pad and I have several wheat bags which I heat in the microwave for neck pain; plus I buy Radian B rub, which is all natural and really helps, it smells, (although I like it)its a bit like wintergreen that sportsmen used to use. Stretching helps too, I bend over a kitchen cabinet or the back of the sofa and stretch my spine out.
I too have sensitive skin due to having non-hodgkin lymphoma, which makes me susceptible to skin cancer, but causes horrible itchy and sore blisters. Hayfever and allergies mean that I use all of the paraphernalia that goes along with it...ain't life fun?! LOL

i think a big problem with getting the correct medication is that some people dont get face to face appointments and discuss changing the medication, especially if the medication has become ineffective. i usually dont have any problem getting more medication. especially for my diabetes.

If I need to go to sleep now I do, I used to fight it but that just made me irritable which lasted for the rest of the day. Not worth it! 😖

Having COPD , I was ofter lethargic. Arthritis & sciatica stopped me walking so much. I was beginning to feel sorry for myself. Then to top it all I had breast cancer, shock diagnosis that it was both breasts. The treatment I had from the cancer team was fantastic, including the follow ups. Now I am fine for a few hours, then I literally "fall of a cliff "and can do nothing. Apparently this is very common. I wish my family understood this.
I have been encouraged to meet other cancer survivors. Tips include gentle fun exercise classes, where I can sit. Coffee mornings, feeding birds, watching trees and breathing exercises. There are days I do not want to do any of that, then I shake myself and get on with it. This can help any serious condition. You can help yourself in ways no one else can. You can ask for help to think positive.

Sorry you have an awful lot to cope with and yes family do not always understand, in fact most people do not comprehend real fatigue unless they have experienced it.

@lacemaker I'm so sorry to hear that suffering from fatigue although all of your blood tests have been within the 'normal' parameters. I'm wondering because you're huffing & puffing after waking to the top of the stairs (1 flight only?), if your fatigue may be due to a respiratory issue? Do you know what your pulse and blood pressure is? Please forgive me for asking so many questions but due to being a retired registered nurse (retired in 2011), always need to ask these of anyone who is willing to share this information in order to try to find any/all possible causes/reasons that may underpin any problem. Please feel free to get in touch with myself if/when you want, in whatever form you are most comfortable with. Sending you my sincerest wishes that your fatigue improves x

Yes CFS many years. Only comment I can make is: if I am very tired just have to rest if a little energy don't stay at a task for long...frequent short rests and a little more progress only way i can get tasks done.

Hello all,
I hope you are all well, and are having a lovely weekend.
As you can see from the title of this discussion, I'd like to ask you about fatigue. It is, unfortunately, a common symptom of many chronic conditions, and the one that affects our daily lives a great deal.
Do you experience fatigue, due to your illness? How does it affect your daily life (your work, your relationships, your social life)?
How do you cope with it? What helps you reduce your fatigue? Is there anything you'd like to recommend other patients?
Do not hesitate to share and discuss in the comments below. Remember: your experience and your insights can be very helpful to others!
Thank you!
Stay safe.
Courtney
