I cannot see salt being root of all evil as surgeons state that it has little effect on blood pressure. We have experimented on my wife to raise her very low blood pressure with loads of salt, with no great effect, by Doctor's advice. There are lots of bad things in our eating habits, many change by expert opinion, on it seems a monthly basis. Changing to margarine or full fat milk to low fat. It all turned out to be lies, our wartime diet was about the heathiest in history, full of fat, salt etc. that our parents consumed!

How are you all doing today?
Let's talk about a topic that’s close to all of us: how to season our food in a healthier way without relying on salt. 🧂
Salt is a key part of our diet, but too much of it can be harmful. The American Heart Association recommends no more than about 1 teaspoon of salt per day (that’s around 2,300 milligrams), and ideally, less than about 2/3 teaspoon (1,500 milligrams) for most adults. Unfortunately, many of us exceed this amount regularly, which can increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.
So, let’s share some ideas on how we can cut down on salt by using other spices and herbs that can boost both our health and the flavour of our meals. Here are a few suggestions:
🌿 Herbs: Fresh or dried herbs like basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary can add rich flavour to your dishes without the need for salt.
🌶️ Spices: Spices like turmeric, cumin, paprika, and cayenne pepper can bring warmth and complexity to your meals.
🍋 Citrus: The juice and zest of lemons and limes provide fresh, vibrant flavours that pair especially well with fish and chicken.
🍷 Vinegar: Different types of vinegar—such as balsamic, apple cider, and red wine vinegar—can add a tangy twist to salads, soups, and sauces.
🧄 Garlic and onions: These veggies make a great base for many recipes and can enhance the taste without needing extra salt.
