I had a lovely summer. I walked down the local farm and had a picnic in the beautiful sun.

@Clarity68 Hello Clarity,
Thank you so much for joining in on the discussion! That sounds like a great summer, it is always wonderful to spend some time by the sea and relax.
Do any other members have some stories from their summer?

I enjoyed the summer here but being new in the country am still adjusting to the weather pattern. I believe it was a long summer for those here; lovely and hot for the locals.
I found it very humid and battled with petit mal seizures every now and then, but am back to normal now that winter is coming.
Now we have experienced one winter and summer here; I look forward to adjusting to more!

@lesmal Yes, it can be hard to adjust to new climates and to predict what kind of impact they will have on your health but I am glad that your seizures have stopped now. One of the "bright" sides to the arrival of winter, I guess :)
Did the weather have an impact on anyone else this summer?

Glad everyone had a great summer. Did any of you think about our bird population. How are they managing in the drought, are they finding enough food? It has been a really good summer in so many ways, lovely weather, 56 days without rain in some parts of the country.
It's been great for the birds, they are costing me a small fortune, a sack of suet pellets and 2 sacks of wild bird seed. That's over £60 when you add in the extras like meal worms, peanuts, suet balls. The list goes on, but we must keep them fed and watered. My 'Bee' hotels have several residents already this year, not too sure about the 'Lacewing' / Moths yet, not seen too many this year? I'll not disturb the 'wintering box'
Anyway. Robins? Every year until her death in 1983 (27 yrs) my Grandmother always sent me a Christmas card with a Robin on it. She always said that 'I was her favourite Grandson'. I was born out of 'wedlock', a mistake if you like? Uncle Jack brought me up for the first few years of my life. Since her death my Uncle Jack and Auntie Jenny have sent me the Robin card. Where ever I have lived since then I have ALWAYS had a Robin in the garden, which after a couple of meetings would take food from my hand. I'm sure it's my Grandmother coming to check up on me?
Even when I go fishing at my local lake (about 1/2 mile as the crow flies), I will be visited by a Robin, and it will take maggots or some other food from me, it perches on my rod tip and chatters away. I would so love to know what it is saying to me. Yes, we must ALL do ‘our bit’ to feed the birds not just in the winter but ALL YEAR round. If they have a steady food supply, they will be more inclined to stay around and more especially nest in the area. I have three bird nest boxes for Finches and Tits. and two boxes for Robins, three ‘Bug Hotels a Moth/Lacewing hibernating box. ALL of which has been made by ‘my fair hand’. Very easy if you put your mind to it? I could send you some plans and material list if you like?
Anyway whinge over, It's safe to put your head over the parapet....... lol....... lol
All Joking aside..... PLEASE THINK OF THE BIRDS. Thank you.

@richard0804 Hello Richard,
Thank you for sharing your summer with us! It is always important to continue feeding birds if you start feeding them because they come to rely on us.
Do any other members have quite the bird village in their gardens?

We had such a lovely variety of birds in South Africa and they were always important to us; fed them every day until the monkeys took their food away!
I don't see such a variety here in Northern Ireland or perhaps I'm living in the wrong part at the moment?
Our bird life is so important so let's preserve it too!
